Well, I'm sure it was the record labels idea to have a paying fan club.

Now that he's not with one, he's doing things on his terms and i think it's fuckin' awesome. I don't see why Spiral members should be angry, He didn't encourage anyone to join before, He tried to make exsclusive stuff free in the past (With Teeth, Year Zero etc) but it was very tightly monitered.

Now he's encouraging everyone to join now because it's free, Rare that any bands do that kinda shit.

There is nothing wrong with change (unless it totally SUCKS) there is everything wrong with bad business, poor communication, and abandonment. (which Trent has done with The Spiral....PAYING fans) Obviously I will continue to verbally chastise tools at this new location (unless it totally SUCKS). The amount of money I cough up for NIN in the future however (and I love NIN) will be determined by how much I think I got sold out.

In actual fact, I think the hurt feelings and egos of paying Spiral members that are being damaged is the more important issue.
NIN said it would be "a truly unique fan experience" and it had a promising start. But what developed was something which in my opinion, was greater than NIN. The
site seems to have endured despite being ignored.

The fact that what has essentially grown, born out of a mutual love for Nine Inch Nails, is being discarded and can be easily replaced-as it is viewed as something trivial and unimportant- rubs ME the wrong way. It is unfortunate that Trent did not feel the connection to the Spiral like we and perhaps he hoped he would. Even if the "new and improved" fan site is acceptable to the masses (which I doubt) this is still the end of something that was a fun, exclusive enough, and special escape for many members.I am allowed to feel sad / mad about it.

It is ironic that Trent professes to basically hate the totalitarian authority of music companies and their business practices, but seems to have emulated their brutal carelessness with diamond like precision. Prove me wrong and I won't feel silly, I will be relieved.
But if anyone thinks that the Spiral member who cares and has made this a place that they can come to vent, chat with friends, talk about the new album, to start shit , or even post perverted pictures on our PRIVATE forum, doesn't have the right to be upset-you are missing the point completely. Being a true fan is not having blind faith in an artist, and no one has to. I've seen it typed a hundred times already "I'm not talking shit about Trent, I'm not saying its his fault, I'm not saying he's a bad guy..." because why? People are concerned about hurting his feelings? Frankly, I don't see that he has cared if he has hurt mine, so I will not be offering the same respect.

Not being up front with the members of your OFFICIAL FAN CLUB is by far the weakest move he has made and continuing to ignore it is only making you him like a bigger asshole.

I agree. I mean,I got what I need I guess out of it (presales and early entrance but no meet and greet),but some members signed up and didn't get anything! It just sucks that he did that,and I think he'll lose a handful of fans for that decision.
