Naturally, there are some disappointments. First of all, lyrics seemed more god-centered - I mean, this time Aaron names the gods, straigthly. This, in a way, destroys one of their main traits I love - the possibility of an open and intimate interpretation. Cause I'm an agnostic, but the lyrics are still touching in a personal way.

Then.. some loss of expermentation. To be honest, I think there are a bit too many acoustic guitars here.. I'd like to hear more good old distortion with some reverb as in Catch for Us the Foxes, but this is - once again, my personal feel and struggle for them to revert to what they were - to personally get another 'Catch for Us the Foxes'. Also.. I sense no longing in this album. mewithoutYou - to me personally, was always about longing - personal feelings, and here.. that misty horizon of hope is not apparent here.

But generally the album impressed me - of how the band evolved, how they can use different techniques and ways of expression. And in echo to Zevaka's post - no, I wouldn't say 'goodbye, mewithoutYou'. I'd say 'goodbye, old mewithoutYou'.

First listen - a good go. Now I will wait for the good rip. And I will obviously buy the cd itself. Cause it's goodness - it's mewithoutYou.
you made some really good points man.

i do agree on the disappointments. i definitley do not feel the same tense emotion that i love.

i like having the optimistic energy and vibe, but i do miss the angst ridden hollers and distortion.
they have made a good album that is very different from the previous, but ultimately im not sure i will ever be as into it as the others...

also, the "God" aspect is driven way too deep. the songs seem too "praise-y" and it loses the mystery of striving for God. it lacks the edge. and i agree that im not into this aspect at all. i've always loved mewithoutyou (and still do) for being who they are. if they were not a christian band, they would not have the same impact and passion. but some of the songs honestly sound like church songs for 6 year old kids...

i found this cd very disapointing...

i agree with some points you both made. i don't like the new sound really. its to happy folkish. as opposed to the heavier darker folk influences. but the vocals are the worst for me. he sounds to content. i loved the desperate, lost, urgency his singing had before.

and i definitly agree that "allah, allah, allah" sounds like a song written for children to sing-a-long with at church.

I decided to only listen to this through the headphones. with exceptions for Angel of Death. Cause I realised new album is the 'happy-christian-folk-on-drugs'. I can't let my friends or parents think I am totally crazy. I'm crazy enough for them.

what is awful, is that I mainly like that.

bright lights, big city

that does indeed sound awful, and what was said about "Allah, Allah, Allah" is true, but I am still really liking this release.

i parallel with you on that! its exactly what i hear in the music.

"a root-beer float in a banana boat on a tapioca sea"

i am really enjoying this album for the most part. a few of the songs are weak though IMO. the sing-a-long is driven overboard on too many of the tracks! the lyrics are amazing too.

Judging by your reactions, I'm happy to hear Aaron has possibly found inner peace. Honestly, that makes me really happy..

bullet to binary pt.II is the shiiiiiiit

"fig with a belly ache"

the camel in the desert took a ship across the lake
while the fish in search of water found a fig with a bellyache
who overheard the waves as they headed for the shore
"we're not so sure of separations anymore."

at the caterpillar picnic, brother butterfly stole
a rhubarb stem, licked and dipped it in the sugar bowl

caught up for Massachusetts in a double-stacked train
through the adirondacks spinning like a weathervane
gathering and cutting and splitting and stacking the wood
our fuel is neatly piled and we all feel good

we pretend to care and like we understand, our eyes go soft but know it now -
what we're thinking about is your mammary glands and how to sail your birth canal
we found the pot that fit the lid no less now then when we were smarter did
our thoughts are like a tea bag on the saucer, all the flavor gone

that dog below our waist aroused, when arms embraced the pretty gals
it came much more as a surprise, it happening when i hugged the guys
we planted for the final frost, we once were found and now we're lost
we got a heck of a lot to learn, no doubt the meeting has adjourned

FYI guys...

tooth and nail has a pre order up with a journal
smart punk has a pre order up with tea bags (?)
and burnt toast is selling the vinyl and probably has a few test prints available still (limited to 25)

I'll probably go to a record shop this week to sell some albums to have enough money to buy the tea bag pre-order.

wither-I

tea bags? what does that mean?

I think it's quite straightforward. Bags of tea lol

Paint Your Lips

haha, yeah. I usually DON"T ask for links as it is absolutely easy to find anything and it just shows how lazy you are.
But this time everytime I found a link it was dead or deleted.
So thanks very much!
