taraf de haidouks, ivo papazov, goran bregovic, and fanfare ciocarlia. also check out hazmat modine and angelite, the bulgarian voices. the stuff that angelite has done with huun huur tu is INCREDIBLE.

to be honest, i think everyone who cares anything about music should watch '1 giant leap: what about me?'. it is the most fascinating documentary i have seen about music and how it connects us all universally. the romani gypsy's that are making music in isolated regions in turkey will just shatter your little heart in the best way possible. it really made a difference for me because all my grandparents are from the hakkâri province, which is my homeland, and this was the type of music they grew up to.
