Why?  He would have never come out and said anything if he wasnt getting blackmailed.  Not that I really think he did anything wrong. But I don't see this as being anything courageous or bold or even respectable.

think about it, if this had been revealed any other way people would have been all "wow, what a dirty old man" and media would have blown it way out of proportion. now people consider him down to earth and honest and this whole thing probably won't explode nearly as much as it would have otherwise.
