Shit shit shit, I will have to go to the 5-Dec FR Paris Elysee Montmartre gig then... My poor wallet... But the venue is less than 2 min by feet from where I live, so I have no choice... I can't remember from Otep and Opeth which band I like. I know that there's one which is okay, an dthat I don't like the other one very much... Mmmm, I'll have to check that, but I cannot miss Amplifier so...

Otep is the spoken word/metal with the female lead vocalist.  Opeth is the progressive/death metal band with the male vocalist.  Opeth is a metal deity.

so i was lying in bed just now, drifting off, images of joaquin phoenix caressing my thoughts and tickling my thighs, listening to the dirty three as i have done almost every night for many, many years now.

and just as i was about to cross over into sleepytown, my brain shouted this at me:

"OHMIGAWD! IT'S THE DIRTY THREE! IT'S THEIR FRICKING FAULT YOU'RE SUCH A MESS! THOSE SWEET, HAUNTING BALLADS HAVE REALLY FUCKED YOUR SHIT UP GOOD!"

?!?

could it be true? could my lullaby music be the secret to my sadness?

i know of course that i can't blame this most wonderful of bands for all my problems, being that i was well fucked up before i owned a copy of 'horse stories'. and i'm almost certain the dirty three didn't kill all those people i lost this week.

but surely falling asleep night after night listening to songs such as 'ends of the earth', 'i remember a time when you used to love me' and 'some things i just don't want to know' must have certain adverse affects on one's soul.

WHY DID I NOT REALISE THIS BEFORE? AM I REALLY THAT DAFT? WHAT ELSE AM I MISSING?

the problem is however, that even though i've had this grand epiphany, and i realise that i should probably seek out some less depressing sleepytime tunes, i don't think i can fall asleep without hearing the beautiful songs of loss and sorrow i've come to depend on to sing me into slumber.

and what use is an epiphany if you can't act on it accordingly?

i'm all conflicted.

I had a similar revelation involving Jeff Buckley and the fact that all my relationships had obviously turned to shit in the last year due purely to the fact I listened to his music before sleeping hence sparking a subconcious pattern of self-induced heartache and lifestyle centered on the mellon-collie.

I now listen to Wu-Tang before sleepy time.

i had a thing with jeff too. of course i couldn't share him with anyone special because i lose friends and partners way too fast. i don't want his music to remind me of them so i keep it to myself.

how can you listen to wu tang though? dirty three is the only thing that helps me sleep. i enjoy their music immensly. a little too much perhaps. like, everytime i hear warren playing the violin...DING, new undies please.

Every week one of our tribe rides a whale to Australia, goes to music shops and listens to new music and then apon swimming back with an order of Wendy's, of course, hums the new music to us which becomes the tribe sing-a-long around the camp fire for the next week.
