Jacob

when I'm at home I usually don't have the urge to smoke. I can go an entire day without one single cigarette. but as soon as I leave the house I get the urge to smoke. whatever else I do, I just have to smoke regularly.

Oh my golly gosh, it is so early. There are six people in my brother's room and we're all waiting for the Big Day Out announcement....oh the fervor and excitement.

EDIT FUCKING EDIT

Hello everyone, how's your year been?

It's time for the BIG DAY OUT 2006 first announcement, which means summer must be just around the corner.

2005 was pretty over the top. Considering how big the shows were it's great that everyone kept it together. Creating a world class, safe event is always our priority & we need everyone's help to deliver the shows you not only expect, but deserve.

For 2006 we searched the globe for just the right acts to come and hang out with everyone. It is after all the world's biggest travelling summer camp. Let's hope we all get along, have fun & hear some great music along the way. You are of course all welcome to stay back and help clean the dishes if you want.

We also have a fantastic new venue for Melbourne this year. More area, more grass, more trees & close to the city.

As usual more acts and entertainment will be announced later, but for now here is our first RSVPs for the 2006 party.

All the best

Ken West & Vivian Lees

BIG DAY OUT is more than a little chuffed to announce the return of THE WHITE STRIPES. Since their last BDO visit in 2002, our old friends Jack and Meg have dropped two universally acclaimed albums, "Elephant" and this year's "Get Behind Me Satan", not to mention an era-defining single in the shape of "Seven Nation Army". They are the rock icons of our time, topping charts worldwide and selling a quarter of a million albums in Australia alone. Their simple, two-person, guitar and drums line-up belies a huge blues/garage/country/folk/rock'n'roll cacophony. There is no mistaking and no resisting the sound of THE WHITE STRIPES, direct from Detroit to BIG DAY OUT.

BIG DAY OUT is rolling out the red carpet to herald the arrival of rock royalty – IGGY & THE STOOGES. "Search and Destroy", "I Wanna Be Your Dog", "No Fun," "Down on the Street" – THE STOOGES' dangerous and grimy '60s-'70s catalogue was the blueprint for every punk rock, garage rock and metal band to come. After 30 years apart, THE STOOGES reformed in 2003 to contribute to Iggy's album "Skull Ring" and to play a string of rapturously received shows. Now it's Australia's turn, but be warned, this ain't no nostalgia trip – this is the iconic IGGY POP and the original underground sound of THE STOOGES. We're not worthy!

When they sang "take me out", the world lined up to take FRANZ FERDINAND up on their offer. BIG DAY OUT is thrilled to have the Scots with the mostest along for the ride. Universally acclaimed as the album of 2004, FRANZ FERDINAND's self-titled debut has now been topped by the brand new "You Could Have It So Much Better" . It's more dramatic, more emotional, more three dimensional. Not just new wave, FRANZ offer a new world: rock music with style, sexual intrigue, smarts, and more plenty of room for dancing. They've conquered the world – what chance does the BIG DAY OUT stand?

A little Southern charm will go a long way when KINGS OF LEON charm the pants right off the BIG DAY OUT. The Followill boys (three brothers and one cousin) burst outta Nashville in 2003 with "Youth and Young Manhood", a butt-kicking debut of garage rock, boozy blues, rootsy riffs and a dash of country. Soon the uber-cool foursome were gracing the covers of rock mags across the globe, and gracing the 2004 BIG DAY OUT stage. From the first album's primal rock, KOL leapt into darker, more emotional territory with last year's "Aha Shake Heartbreak". The tales are still twisted, Caleb still howls like a man possessed, but this is an altogether different trip. A band with a rock show good enough to break and shake your heart, please welcome back KINGS OF LEON.

No strangers to the BIG DAY OUT, we are delighted to herald the return of THE MARS VOLTA in 2006 . Led by former At the Drive-In vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, THE MARS VOLTA have taken music to new frontiers over two mind-blowing concept albums, "De-Loused in the Comatorium" and "Frances the Mute". Beyond genres, they blend sci-fi, primal punk, electronic pulses, hair-raising vocals, Latin grooves and classic rock with a charisma and conviction you can't tear your eyes or ears away from. More than just a live show, THE MARS VOLTA are an experience.

Pull out your eyeliner: the BIG DAY OUT gets dark in 2006 by welcoming A Fire Inside, better known simply as AFI. The decade-old and counting Californian hardcore boys are what frontman Davey Havok calls a "risky" proposition: hard as hell one minute, infectiously melodic the next. But the risk has paid off – AFI's bond with their audience is like nothing you've ever seen at a rock show. With an epic follow up to 2003's major label debut "Sing the Sorrow" due in the new year, AFI will sing it and mean it at the BIG DAY OUT this summer.

Portland, Oregon's original riot grrrls SLEATER-KINNEY bring their feminine wiles to BIG DAY OUT. Over 11 years and seven albums, Carrie, Corin and Janet have been producing visceral anthems of provocative, urbane, enraged, noisy, politically-charged, funky, angular punk rock. Their latest, the Dave Fridmann-produced "The Woods", is their most challenging effort yet, taking the trio into panoramic new territory. Always a formidable live force, SLEATER-KINNEY are a band we're proud to welcome to the BIG DAY OUT.

I passed out after that...

ragdoll

hah....i was listening to sleater-kinney as i read that. definitely pass-out-worthy.

There are so many people dancing in my room right now haha I'll see how I feel. If I still feel rotten then I'll have to catch the side shows. I'm definitly not going to miss The Mars Volta. I wonder if Cedric still remembers me, I doubt it but you never know.

feeling like more

i'll still go but i'm a little let down by the first announcement. i wish i could make my own bdo. i guess i was just holding onto the very faint hope that circa would be on the list...

I don't even know why I want to see the Mars Volta. I don't even like them that much.

black coffee

yea that makes sense.

i rarely smoke cigarettes lately .. it depends on the situation.. like, i'm doing this lan party for three days with my homies and we started yesterday, and we are smoking lots of weed, drink even more beer, and of course, here and there i also smoke a cigarette. afterwards we play call of duty, ut2004 or warcraft3 and hang out.

its ok then, but normally i try to prevent myself from smoking, and do instead more sports and get my ass to the gym.
