It's so strange. I'm not even getting into the Christmas spirit. The decorations are hurting my eyes and people's cheerful 'have a nice Christmas' is really depressing me. Maybe it's because of all the dead animals being involved with Christmas itself. So many pigs are slaughtered in Australia around Christmas time that it makes me believe what's the point in celebrating the birth of Jesus by ending so many other lives. It just doesn't make sense. Be it any animal. The worst thing is I have to sit through every year of having my family barbeque every living animal on the planet while I sit inside trying to block out the smell of cooking corpses. Pigs are more intelligent than dogs yet they're treated like shit. At Christmas it would be nice to think that humans show some goodwill to other creatures. And increasing numbers do. But many people still celebrate Christmas by killing 11 million turkeys.

Doesn't it seem strange that when people sit down for Christmas dinner, to celebrate peace and forgiveness and all the better things in life, they do it by first cutting something's throat and killing it? When they "coo" and "aah" and say what a lovely turkey they're munching into, they close their eyes to the pain and filth that was its life. And when they carve its huge breast they probably don't even know that this great lump of flesh has turned turkeys into freaks. We have produced a creature that can't even mate without us doing it for them using artificial insemination. Not a very merry Christmas for them!!

It's late and I'm thinking too much about animals. It just makes me so sad. It's not like a sadness when you lose something, an object. It's like a sadness that you get when you lose a person you love so much that you wake up and realise that you can't live without them being in your life. Now multiply that feeling by the billions of animals slaughtered all over the world. I'm so sad.
