I watched a couple of films yesterday. First, I saw Roger & Me. This was Michael Moore's first documentary, so it wasn't as cohesive as his other films. However, it kept my interest and for it being so low budget, it was put together very well. But like many of Moore's films, you always have to take it with a grain of salt. I think it's great he's letting people know about the different problems with the world, but he doesn't seem to do much to change it. I guess exposing these different things is his way of doing so.

I also saw Duplicity. I think the writer/director had a vision and ran with it. However, he ran a little too far. He tried to make this film smart and complex, but ignored the romantic part of the plot. I would have believed this relationship between Claire and Ray more if these characters had evolved. You didn't know too much about these two people though, so their romance felt like it got in the way of the story. The movie was a little too ambitious, which is a shame since this film had a lot of potential.

Heh, 976-EVIL is on the Horror Channel on Sky right now, it looks lame.

I saw a few films this weekend. The first one I saw was Chaplin: The Movie, which structurally kind of sucked, but the acting was awesome. Robert Downey, Jr. seems to love what he does because every time he is in a film, he gives 110% to his performance. This role was no exception, and I think he did an awesome job. It was unfortunate that the script was sloppily written. I'm not too familiar with Charlie Chaplin's biography but it seemed as if there was a lot to show about his life in such a small amount of time. I think the writer and director expected the audience to make the links with the missing information, or at least they hoped the audience could make their own distinctions.

I also saw Duck Soup in its entirety. This was my first Marx Brothers film, and I couldn't help but laugh myself into unconsciousness. This film was hilarious, not to mention incredibly dirty. I'm shocked with how much Groucho Marx got away with. I guess the fact that he plays a fast-talking, smart ass works in his favor. I think my favorite scene was with Chico, Harpo and the guy at the lemonade stand. It was smart, fast paced and really goofy.

To end the night, I watched The Sea Inside, which I assumed would have made me cry. However, I was shocked that it didn't. Nevertheless, I thought it was beautifully shot and the acting was top notch. This film also had a sense of romance to it, and I actually enjoyed those bits. I'm not really into romantic films because most of the time I don't find it to be all that romantic. This film, however, was romantic and one of the few times I actually acted like a girl about it. Not to mention this film brings up some interesting points about assisted suicide.  I don't think I've seen Javier Bardem do a bad job in any role he's been in. I still think he looks like a horse, and I really don't understand why women find him attractive.

Good to see some Marx Brothers love. Duck Soup really is great, but I actually like A Night at the Opera even more. I recommend you check that out sometime, as well as Animal Crackers by them.

Bright Lights !..Why the fuck are you so damn awesome? Cant you be a piece of shit sometimes?

The Sea Inside...I'll check that badboy out.  Did you see the Greatest?  Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon et al.....I must admit I was reduced to a weeping child with that one.  I guess I was kind of in awe of how the young dude who dies caused such a huge amount of turmoil and sorrow.   Worth checking out anyway.  I did some xmas shoipping and decided a cost effective yet effective gift was obscure (at least to those that are getting them) movies - picked up Intacto, Them (or Ils to give it its French name), and L'Appartement - all of which I'd highly recommend.  Anyone else giving movies as gifts?

oh, i bawled like a baby during the sea inside.

i watched an iranian film called 'offside' this afternoon. it was very funny and put me in good spirits. i loved all the girls in it. i was then told by my father the story surrounding jafar panahi and got depressed again. the fucking iranian government can be such a piece of shit ALL THE TIME.

Movie is about two danish resistance fighters during WW II. It does feel more like a "gangster" movie at times instead of a movie about two national heroes, but still it's a fine movie with great actors, especially the two main characters.

I saw L'Appartement a while back. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I'll definitely check out that Susan Sarandon film out, and I will be going to through the Marx Brothers' collection more thoroughly.

cillian murphy is in tron for 5 mins in an uncredited role and he pretty much nails the american accent perfectly. yes, i will watch it just for 5 mins of cillian.

WHAT A HONEY!

Speaking of Cillian, I saw Sunshine recently - I must confess I thought it was bollocks.  Usually pretty patient with most things, but it bored me senseless.  Wasn't too impressed with 28 days later either.  Controversial I know, but hey we like what we like I guess.

naw, you're right. 28 Days Later is ho hum for me too.

Good God, is he wearing glasses?

blixa

YES, HE IS WEARING GLASSES. HE IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN.

i liked 28 days later. i would like to say i'm biased when it comes to murphy, and maybe i am a little, but i've loved all the roles he's taken on. disco pigs is my favourite film of his. it's perfect from start to finish.

breakfast on pluto, how harry became a tree, and the wind that shakes the barley are all exceptional films also. intermission is great too. AND he was in a short film called 'water', which you can find on youtube. definitely worth a watch.

Went to see Its a Wonderful Life tonight at the GFT in Glasgow, picked up the latest monthly guide, and read up on Black Swan - now in the defo list thanks to my main man Vinnie Cassell - that dude rules all.
