Mazzy

It's just wrong.

ChickdelaLynch

I went to the video store today and when I went around the store once and found nothing, I felt hopeless like I wasn't going to find anything good until I looked in the DVD section and...

BAM! Happiness was on the shelf, just winking at me. I gasped. I have been looking for this movie forever and I finally found it. It had "Watch Me" all over the frickin' cover, so I got it and I love it. Todd Solondz knows how to make funny/disturbing films. I was very much impressed with Jon Lovitz's acting, even though he was only in five minutes of the film. I think everyone did a good job and I love Philip Seymour Hoffman. Gah! It's just damn good.

Quote from: "Mazzy"I haven't watched Closer yet. I think it's my dislike of Jude Law and Natalie Portman that's stopping me from doing so.

I want to watch Mysterious Skin. It looks really interesting compared to all the mundane crappy remakes out there right now. Shame on you Willie Nelson, you have officially lost your mind  :(

mysterious skin is pretty good. go to newtown and watch it at dendy

anyways back to sommersault... i didnt realise she was only 16. i thought she was meant to be about 19. i dont dislike the character as much now.maybe i will watch it again, i rented it for a week. i dont understand what the girl's dad said happened that got her so angry at the BP?

swingindong

i dont know if anything about this movie has been posted yet, and i didnt exactly feel like going through 40 pages to find out

but i saw the 40 year old virgin last night, that shit has got to be one of the funniest movies ive ever seen in my life, id say at least 8 times i had tears running down my face, my jaw hurt like a bitch when i left the theater, if youve got a sense of humor as sick as mine, you need to go check this shit out immediatly!

id put it up there with movies like old school, billy madison, happy gilmore.......if not funnier......seriously

Her dad told Bianca (her friend from the BP) that Heidi cracked onto him in the car because he doesn't want Bianca to be friend's with Heidi. Remember at the beginning of the movie when Heidi was walking around Jindabyne looking for a job and she went into that store, that was Bianca's dad. I think he has some sort of resentment towards Heidi because he finds her attractive and he doesn't trust himself around her. She makes him uncomfortable because he can't have her and she has that innocent naughty appeal to her. He doesn't want Bianca to be around her but really, all Heidi needed was a friend like Bianca to give her some sort of stability because she was all alone with only Joe and Irene being the only two people she conversed with.

ooh but she was just tucking his tag in. i didnt like him. you'v thought about this alot hey. would you say its your favourite movie?

manic_bastard

i saw Home At The End Of The World or something.
i didn't really like it. it was too fast-paced and what seemed like a good story, just wasn't solid enough. i didnt see The Hours so, i dont know.

one weak

i finally saw My Own Private Idaho

...hmmmm. i guess i don't really know how to feel about it. i suppose i just felt sorry for each character, and hated them at the same time. kind of sickening. that's how i felt about Closer as well.

it's great writing, but it just doesn't do anything for me to have to hate/feel sorrow for a character for an enitre 2 hours.

It's my favourite Van Sant movie ever. I loved it, everything about it was just complete and so thought provoking. I liked that documentary look to it. Phoenix does an amazing job and this is the only movie where Keanu actually does good acting. I loved the story line to Mike having narcolepsy and then getting those vague memories of his mother and it became like his dreams when he got those attacks of sleep, were taking him home.

This confronted me so much. It did so much and it just made me love River Phoenix as an actor more than I thought imaginable and I already loved Van Sant but darn...it was so compelling and it just absorbed your reality out of you and just took you on this ride with these two men.

 Yeah I like it a lot, it isn't my favourite (I think My Own Private Idaho is) but it's so up there.

i think my favourite movie is lost in translation

Mazzy

Sometimes I think that movie is so pretentious. Scarlette annoys the shit outta me. I love Bill Murray though and I think that's the only person that doesn't allow this movie to completely suck for me.

how is it pretentious

yeah. i did think it was compelling. don't get me wrong, the writing and filmmaking was great, it's just not the easiest film to sit through because...well...i guess it's easy to identify with those kind of characters. though i could identify with River and even Keanu, it made me want to feel sorry for myself if my life ever turned out that shitty. so...maybe van sant did his job, but just not my cup of tea. i suppose i'd rather "watch" a film like Elephant than "be" in a film like My Own Private Idaho. it's easier to be a bystander in Elephant because you have that nearly real documentary feel.

I think it's Scarlett Johansson, I don't like her acting. I think Sofia did an awesome job (I was a big fan of The Virgin Suicides). I think it's a gorgeous movie, but pretentious. I liked how both characters occupy very different ends of the life spectrum yet somehow they find a deep, unspoken connection as they keep bumping into each other in the hotel they happen to share. Their union was kinda weird for me cause it was so unlikely. It didn't give me anything by the end of it. I was entertained, undoubtly, but still not really amazed.

And Beau, I so get what you're saying...you're the film buff, not I  :)

but dont you think it was good how it ended? how you dont really know what ended up happening? i'm glad we didn't find out what he said to her. i understand its not a movie for everyone though. did you at least like scarlett's character? because i found her really easy to relate to?

Azwethinkweiz
