Quote from: "aenemic"I saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children a few hours ago and I can't make up my mind... I was partly very disappointed, but at the same time it was just so fucking awesome. just seeing all those characters again. and hearing the music... and the animation was close to perfection.

what was disappointing about it? was it the story? im sure i'd feel the same way if i saw it. the animation looks really good.

yeah, the story was disappointing. it wasn't the original breath taking follow up to the FFVII story I was hoping for. it was actually just a way for them to milk out some more money, I think...

Quote from: "feeling like more"i really really really didn't like it. but thats just my opinion

It's such a raw, gritty, nasty, disturbing movie.
I've seen it like 15 times and I still feel kinda "weird" everytime I see it.

what did you think of the re-make?

original texas chainsaw massacre is incredible definetly in my top 10 fav movies ever

the remake was the gayest thing ever though

What did you think of it?

Does 'bleh' mean it was neutral and not that interesting, or is it more of an 'alright' kinda response.

The Cinematography was freaking brilliant.

hmmmmmmmmm ok it was good. i thought the girl [the main character] was just damn annoying.. what a moron. and the guy i don't really know what to make of him? why did he kiss the gay dude? that part seemed a bit random. it was a nice story though. i would have wanted to see a bit more resolved with the mother though. my favourite character was irene.

yeah the cinematography was great, but i just didnt enjoy the movie
how do you purchase an M4 over the internet, recieve it over night in the mail and be able to shoot it in your garage without alerting the whole neighborhood?

"Bang Bang You're Dead" did a better job of covering the whole school shooting scenario

But then every movie does that on different levels man. I liked the whole story though, it was intelligent. Think about it, the whole movie is improvised - all the kids in it are unknown and there's no concrete dialogue. I was attracted to the realness of it, how Van Sant literally follows these students as they go about their daily business. He films them in long takes as they walk through the school, or as they develop photographs, or bitch about each other. As such, apart from a few personal problems, what appears to be only the mundane occurs to the film's characters for a large part of the film. Van Sant manages to avoid blandness, not only because of a continuous atmosphere of inevitable tragedy but also because of the audience's connection to the lives of the students. By not forcing his audience into viewing a constrained narrative, Van Sant is able to encourage them to paint their own mental picture on the canvas he presents. I think he did an excellent job in achieving this, he's one of the very few directors that can do that. It's just rare to see.

When presented with the 'objective' image of a student walking through the school, you start to use your own experience of school-life to give the scene a subjective perspective and enrich it in a very personal way. That's what I love about Van Sant, he enables his audience to think for themselves, and in doing so creates a truly interactive experience. I liked how it is clear that something terrible is going to happen, which makes the seemingly everyday lives that are being led by the film's characters all the more poignant. Yet Van Sant makes no attempts to lay the blame of the inevitable tragedy onto anyone, or anything, in particular. I thought it was so revitalising to see that. He does point to certain factors that could have led to the horrifying ending of the film - students being aggressively excluded from High School society; easy access to dangerously violent games on the internet; and the opportunities that are available for young Americans to get automatic weapons delivered to their front door. I think that's what you probably had trouble understanding, Van Sant was trying to show how unbelievably easy it is for young people to have access to guns even though you felt that it was a bit obscure. But Van Sant does not try and provide a definitive answer as to why the tragedy that unfolds has occurred. Rather, what the movie tries to illustrate is the argument that some inexplicable questions can never be fully resolved.

That is so strange cause I was so moved by this film. I think the main character Heidi was really well performed by Abbie Cornish. She did such a good job in showing Heidi's vulnerability and fragile nature. Heidi's a sixteen year-old on the run from her family and troubled past, that's what you have to remember. She craves this emotional and physical love that she never had. I loved how everything in her life hangs by a thread. It is precarious at best. A series of self-made personal disasters forms the framework of her emotional survival. Trouble is her security blanket. That's when she meets Joe, his character is constantly at odds with the expectations put on him externally and internally, Joe has a myriad of problems of his own. His union with Heidi is reluctant but equally passionate. I liked how each character retreats to their respective comfort zones that of isolation and unhappiness when they feel they are becoming too close.

I think the reason Joe kisses Richard is because he has no relationship whatsoever with his father. He has no male emotional connection and it's further set on because he is frankly lost emotionally. It was an act confronting his own sexuality. In the name of experimentation. I think it fit in so perfectly so it was a bonus for me. Lyn Curran did an awesome job as Irene. She was able to portray the kind motel owner intensely, I liked the background story as to what happened to her son too. It was a nice touch by Shortland.

It was so confronting and surprisingly thought-provoking. I think the fact that it touches upon issues that are not explored fully makes it even more interesting and able to subjectively interpret.

I think every other biology class has watched that film. I like it.

CLOSER - is seriously one of my favorite movies...i love how it is so..direct and really shows how ppl feel....

Mazzy

I haven't watched Closer yet. I think it's my dislike of Jude Law and Natalie Portman that's stopping me from doing so.

I want to watch Mysterious Skin. It looks really interesting compared to all the mundane crappy remakes out there right now. Shame on you Willie Nelson, you have officially lost your mind  :(

wharf rat

willie can do whatever the fuck he wants

Mazzy

No he can't. Parading around in a clip with that dumb ass Jessica Simpson equals to loss of mind. It's just wrong. I had so much respect for him and I love the guy so my love for him won't die because of that but man, it just tarnished him in my eyes a little.

The Captain

Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Willie Nelson = Awesome
