Quote from: "ChickdelaLynch"For Pi, it made me love Darren Aronofsky. Wow, what a great film. The acting was really strong and the plot was great. I could see some elements that rubbed off onto Requiem For A Dream. Good movie.
Yes, Pi is great, even better for a Tool-fan becuase of all the fibonacci-things and spirals. No doubt Tool was influenced by that movie.

I recently watched The Ring Two. Not bad but not that good either...the first one was good and this just was a bit repetitive. However, Naomi Watts is quite a good actress and speaking of her...she'll be in the upcoming King Kong movie. Looks cool.

Teddy

I just saw the kong is King trailer and damn it looks cool! the special effects look really good and it should be a good entertaining movie

I'm watching Lantana tonight. I have watched it before but my dad hasn't so I just have to pretend I haven't watched it so he doesn't feel bad about hiring it. Awww aren't I sweet   Plus I can never get enough of Geoffry Rush.

This is a top review of it:

This is an absorbing, wry, on occasion witty, and slightly stagey drama about four couples whose lives become entangled more or less by chance. The very occasional director, Ray Lawrence (his last film was `Bliss' in 1985) has taken Andrew Bovell's play `Speaking in Tongues' and made a very effective film of it. Despite the occasional histrionics it cannot be described as a filmed play. The camera is used to great advantage and some memorable visual images obtained eg the opening sequence where the camera slowly tracks over a profuse growth of that pretty but prickly introduced pest, Lantana, until it comes to rest on a woman's body caught within.

The plot revolves around the circumstances in which the woman met her end. Three of the couples have probematical relationships. A policeman (Anthony La Paglia) is having an affair (or at least a two-night stand) while his wife (Kerry Armstrong), aware something is wrong, is seeing a psychiatrist for therapy. The psychiatrist (Barbara Hershey) is in a mess herself. Her young daughter was murdered a couple of years previously and she and her pill of a legal academic husband (Geoffrey Rush) are held together mainly by grief. She also has a rather sinister gay client (Peter Phelps) who she comes to believe may be involved with her husband. The cop's lover (Rachel Blake) is estranged from her husband (Glen Robbins) and presents a threat to the happiness of the battlers next door (Vince Colsimo and Daniella Farinacci), though they are the least screwed up of the four. When the cop comes to investigate the death the plot thickens, but all is resolved in the end.

It's a good story cleverly told and the acting is first rate – no-one misses a beat. I loved the moment when the cop bursts into his 15 year old son's room to catch him smoking pot and says to him `for God's sake, I'm a cop.' The kid replies: `You should be able to get me some really good stuff then.' Drug exhibits have a habit of disappearing from Sydney police stations. But the real strength of the movie is the honesty with which it portrays emotional deceit and its consequences – what we do to ourselves and to others when we are too tired or cowardly to deal with how we really feel about those close to us. To fall in and out of love at 20 is painful but easy. To find yourself out of love with you partner after 20 years of marriage is painful and hard. No wonder we put off the day of reckoning and no wonder it sometimes takes a tragedy to bring us to that day.

I love Anthony La Paglia. Originally when he left Adelaide for New York he did have an Australian accent (he still does when he says some words) but he couldn't get jobs because the casting directors would ask him where he was from and he'd say 'Australia' and they'd start with the whole 'G'day' and 'crocodile dundee' crap and that used to wreck his focus and then they would tell him that his Aussie accent was a problem blah blah blah. So then he started going to auditions and he'd say he was from Brooklyn in a total American accent. He's brilliant, his wife Gia is an Aussie too and the accent on that woman is awesome, I think that's where he keeps his sense of Australian identity intact.

But awesome movie, I'm surprised you've watched it actually. American's don't really get into Aussie movies sorta speak, which is a shame cause we got some awesome movies. SOMERSAULT IS ONE OF THEM BEDE!!

ben

War of the Worlds made me physically sick.
