A Serious Man.

Not really sure how I feel about it.
that's how i felt about it at first. i think it's going to be a movie that gets better with time and repeated viewings.

I didn't really think there was any point to it. Also, if I didn't already know I'd never would've guessed that the Coen's made this. It had none of their trademarks.

I wonder if it's easier to "get" it if you're Jewish.

Hmm....

shine down unshy

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
The Lovely Bones

They're both gems.

Wax And Wane

Funny People.... It was funny at times. Very long though. Not the greatest but i'll give it a 7 out of 10.

Observe and Report - 8.5/10

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - 8.5/10

Crazylegs

#4684
gran torino - 6.5/10

i thought this was going to be really good. i enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything special at all. The actors who played the kids next door were some of the worst i've ever seen. Clint was awesome as ever though.

totally agree. it was one of my favourites for a while but yer, the acting was so bad it was funny which it made the movie even more entertaining...for me anyway.

last movie i watched...
The Hurt Locker - 8.5/10

wasn't epic or anything but it really got me sinking into my seat. i got quite emotional in some bits too.

Yeah, they were awful. Especially the kid.

I saw a few films over my spring break.

Sherlock Holmes -  I was expecting this to be a lot better than what it was. Robert Downey Jr. saved the film, but Guy Ritchie is a blow 'em up film director and I guess it is a different take on the original story, but it doesn't mean it's better or interesting. This is the first film I have seen by him, but I'm going to take a leap and assume plot and story are not his strong suits. It probably works for most of his films, but for a movie dedicated to one of the most popular detectives, you want SOME plot in it!

Gran Torrino - Great film. However I thought the punks in this film were stupid for messing with Clint Eastwood. The guy may be up in age, but he's still a frightening mother fucker. I also thought that at certain points this film was touching, and randomly funny.

Clash of the Titans - I mentioned this in the "Clash of the Titans" thread, but it bears repeating. Greek mythology has a lot going on -- sex, violence, incest, murder, jealousy. The Gods were supposed to be at the utmost perfection, yet they act like humans. That is interesting. You don't need to dumb it down by putting a shit load of action in it. I have yet to see the original, but it's probably a lot better than this one.

i'd still watch it if i were, you let me know what you think. If you're hoping for superbad meets superheroes you will get what you paid for, but it's not been pulled off very well, just seems as if it's trying too hard. Nicholas Cage is good though.

Funny People.

Wow, I'm absolutely baffled by all the negativity this movie has been getting.

I fucking loved it. The comedy and drama worked perfectly. Everyone were great and I was especially fond of Jonah Hill's more subtle performance. It was a nice change from his usual foul-mouthed, loud-mouthed roles.

Judd Apatow is really progressing into a fantastic director and you could feel how much he had put into this movie. Definitely his most mature and personal flick to date. The 2hour3min runtime flew by and I wasn't bored once.

I can't think of anything I didn't like, so therefore:

10/10

bright lights, big city

i saw that again recently, and i agree man, I don't get the haters out there. granted, it wasn't the funniest Apatow movie, but it was a comedy with emotion, and had GREAT writing and acting. i'd probably give it 9/10.

I agree. I think there are some kinks still, but I think it's showing Apatow's potential. I think the reason why it got negativity was because people were expecting the usual foul mouthed comedy, and instead they got more drama than what they wanted. I personally thought it was great, but it's not a film I would watch repeatedly.

I watched The Last King of Scotland last night. I don't think I fully noticed Forest Whittaker's performance until the last half of the film. Otherwise, the film was alright.
