Sufjan news:

so i suppose the Christmas album will help tide me over until the next album comes along, but who knows when that will be? apparently some people have been saying that the next album will be about birds.

i came across this interview with Sufjan and it contained this bit:

Sufjan: "... the funny thing about Detroit is that the natural world is taking over again. Recently there's been a rise in bird habitation in abandoned lots in downtown, and ornithologists are flocking to . . . no, sorry . . . ornithologists are coming to Detroit to bird watch, and there are wild peacocks and pheasants in downtown Detroit. So because Detroit is decomposing, it is possible to live the rural lifestyle."

i wonder how long Sufjan's been thinking about the birds.

the interviewer asked him a bunch of things like "Is gay marriage okay?" and "Why don't you sing about love and sex?" interesting interview, seeing how Sufjan answers.

people need to start realising what he is and what he isn't going to talk about.

but how is the rest of the album?

Nothing short of amazing. Folk / Indie / A little dash of core elements at times. He sings like he is reading poetry, the lyrics are amazing as always. It's like Catch for Us the Foxes, but more Indie and beautiful. Check it out, Curly.

I loved Ctach us for the foxes...so I'll have to get it.

thanks to why? (the band, not the user) i've been listening to alot of anticon releases. 13 & God and Themselves are two great bands for instance.

13 & God is a rap/pop-band kinda. can be pretty minimalistic and laid back. kinda weird, but still damn good.

Themselves is rap, which is all new to me. I havn't really listened to any rap before, except for some General Patton if you can count that. I guess this is pretty avantgarde as well. I suggest The No Music and especially the songs 'Good People Check' and 'Paging Dr. Moon or Gun'.

well i can't really say any bands that are alike, since i normally don't listen to rap.

any body out there old school?    question.....who made it first quicksand or the deftones?

Well, as far as I know, Quicksand began just after (maybe a year or so inbetween) Gorilla Biscuits (Walter Schreifels former band) folded. This was around 90-92 I would reckon, not too sure on dates. I'm not particularly sure on what you mean by 'who made it first', but Quicksand's last album 'Manic Compression' was out the same year as 'Adrenaline', 95. They split up then, but got back together a couple of years later and did a tour with Deftones, and were going to do another album but then they split up again.

I dont take credit for that info, it's all on their wikipedia page hehe!
