5)Diamond Eyes (Miss Chi Cheng)

Crazy Breed

All their albums are great....which is rare in a band...but i have to go with White Pony.....It's the Deftones "Dark Side of the Moon"....in other words...it's their masterpiece IMO....and I just became a fan last year!...having their whole discog. dropped on my lap at once was almost overwhelming, but in a good way.

def a fan for life now that's for sure.

Around the Fur. Be Quiet and Drive was the song that got me hooked on the Deftones in the first place, plus it's got Mascara (favorite on the album). White Pony then s/t are close 2nd's and 3rd's.

White pony

1.- is the album that make me into DEFTONES.
2.- when they were touring this album, it was the first time i saw them
3.-make them change their way, to their darkside..lol, which i really LOVE an MISS with DE

One_Weak

Adrenaline

i think it's got a great mix of heavy and soft lyrics

Engine No.9 is the best heavy track
I love One Weak, it's subtle but sporadically heavy

lyrically, i love this album and the fact that it was recorded when they were so young, as their first album, and still sounds good makes me like it even more

second place is Around the Fur, then Diamond Eyes

White Pony and SNW are actually my least faves, but in saying that I just mean i only dislike more than 2 or 3 songs from that album as opposed to others where i wouldn't skip a single track
Biggest Musical revelation in my life so far: Deftones indulgence in August 2010 thanks to Diamond Eyes album (despite faves being Adrenaline & ATF). Been obsessed ever since. First concert for them in Baltimore 5/17, fucking aweso\m/e

White Pony is my favorite due to the hallmark turning point of the band in their sound.. the production of the album and the overall feeling I get from it as a whole.. And plus I have alot of emotional ties and memories attached to that album for me personally.

endstand

I never knew which album is my favorite one. Self-titled was the first which I listened as a whole album, it reminds me some good days, while White Pony got me shivering with all the excitement (after hearing "Change") - I knew that I had just found unique band. Really I never questioned myself which album is my favorite. Now I made an easy maths, wrote how many songs from every album I like. The result was this:

Adrenaline - 9/11 (don't like Root and Engine No. 9)
Around the fur - 11/11
White pony - 11/12 (Teenager)
Deftones - 10/11 (Moana)
Saturday night wrist - 7/12 (Mein, Rats!, Pink Cellphone, Rivière, Instrumental)
Diamond eyes - 9/11 (Beauty School, Sextape, Diamond Eyes)

Around the fur, haha ;) Never thought I like it so much ;)
hello memory lover, you are mine

lostpilot

it's a shame that only 5 people see S/T as the best.
It deserves so much more.

1. White Pony - Their most fully realized, complete album. Every song blends beautifully into the next. It's an album that makes the listener feel like they are going on a journey into a very dark, strange world. It's a slick, stylized, "arty" album, but that's a plus to me.

2. ATF/S/T - I can't pick between the two. Both are classics though. So many amazing songs. I was really fucking obsessed with S/T for a long period of my life, so it will always have a special place in my heart. It's a "dirty" album, if you will. It's kind of like WP's little pissed off brother or something.. As for ATF, that's their most mighty and metallic album. It hits you like a ton of bricks with its raw power, but there's still those weird, beautiful, experimental moments in there. For instance, how strange is the breakdown/bridge in ATF? Its so out of nowhere, yet so brilliant.

3. Adrenaline - A fun album with some killer tracks. I feel like they were still finding their grounding though, and didn't quite reach the full potential on later albums. Some of the songs have similar structures, as well as Chino's vocal melodies. Still, it's a blast.

4. Diamond Eyes - Yeah, SNW is more experimental, which is usually something I'd prefer over something more straightforward and "commercial", but I just feel like DE is tighter and more focused. The production is better. There's some missteps here and there, but the good songs are really fucking good. It's actually pretty damn amazing how quickly they made it in relation to its overall quality.

5. Saturday Night Wrist - I placed SNW last because I view it as an interesting failure. There are a lot of great ideas and moments but it just never really gels together for me as a cohesive album. I think it's because I know it had the potential to be one of their best records. The Ezrin demos hint at what it really could have been. The early live versions of Beware and Rapture make the versions on the album just pale in comparison. Great individual moments, but just a little too all over the place for me. Also, the production could have been a lot better.

1) Around the Fur - my favorite album, also contains my favorite Deftones song Be Quiet Drive. I think its a album that clearly defines the band, Its aggressive, great riffs etc...
picks: Be quiet and drive, Head Up, Mx, My Own Summer, Lotion, Rickets.

2) White Pony - Comes in second very close to ATF. Like most of the songs on it, and a bit of experimentation ones like digital bath. Its also a melodic album.
picks: Change, Elite, Digital Bath, Pink Maggit/Back to School, Knife Party

3) Diamond Eyes - A great comeback and a solid album. I place it above Adrenaline because... i simply like it more.
picks: Diamond Eyes, Rocket Skates, Prince, CMND/CTRL, Royal

4) Adrenaline - I just dont like how the guitar sounds, there are some classic tracks there sure, live they are amazing.
picks: Bored, 7 Words, Engine number.9, root, Birthmark

5) Saturday Night Wrist - I  do like some songs in this album, but most of them sound too much like something another band would play. Also contains Pink Cell phone ugh.
picks: Mein, Beware, Xerces

6) Self titled - My least favorite one. I think this was a really weak album compared to the other ones.
picks: Hexagram, Battle Axe.

Self titled is my favorite and it's not particularly close. I think this album transformed me musically, although I didn't realize it at the time. Before this album, I was just one of those duders who only listened to metal. After I listened to it (a fucking LOT), I gradually started listening to much more atmospheric music, both metal and nonmetal.

After S/T it goes something like 2) White Pony, 3) Around the Fur, and 4) who the fuck cares

nugz

adrenaline and self titled. the artwork sold me on the self titled.

One_Weak

Adrenaline, for its rawness and mix of emotion. I love all the riffs and love the vocals, just the way the songs were sung and the fact that it was their debut. although a few songs on Diamond Eyes were what hooked me in, 7 Words  pulled me into Adrenaline and I'm grateful for it. It took me awhile to breathe some patience into Fireal, and I'm thankful for that too. In the end it's really the only album I can say I wouldn't necessarily skip any track. with the slowest ones at the end, I can't complain.

runner-up would be Diamond Eyes, for said reason above and just the general feel of it. funny cuz it's their LATEST album as opposed to their FIRST^ but with Prince and Rocket Skates substantially reeling me into Deftones, I gotta give props.
