There's nothing wrong with the way most teenagers react to music, whether it is you or others. Some people go to see Deftones just because they heard Change, and nobody has an authority on what is the acceptable way to enjoy music.

I'm talking about the system implicit to TikTok, not the users

I have talked to teenagers with Deftones shirts who ACTUALLY listen to them and legit connect with the music. Which is fucking cool af to say about a band.

I never did come across anyone that I can recall when I was younger who wore a band shirt they didn't actually listen to, because they would be called a poser, and many people I knew back in the day listened to bands much older like Led Zeppelin and the Doors.

This is my new favorite phrase

Apologies for the double post but yes, I'm not judging the younger generation, just making an observation on the difference in the way they experience pop culture. When I was growing up if you wanted to hear new exciting bands it was venues, MTV, and college radio.

- A few years before that, we had the Walkman
- The Walkman? Was he a superhero who walked on walls?
- No you little punk, you put the cassette into the Walkman so you could listen to the music
- What's a cassette?!

I taught both my kids very early on that it wasan unwritten rule that you do *not* wear a band t-shirt unless you can hold a conversation about said band. You don't have to know every track, but you need to know more than a few songs. My girls are 21 and 17. Oldest favorite band is The Cure. My youngest favorite band is.....Deftones. Just like her Dad :) Literally, no words can describe how cool it is that my child is as excited as me for this new Deftones album. My oldest knows more about bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, etc than 90% of people that pretend to like those bands to be "cool". How amazing....

A lot I wish I could have done different. But I was always here for them and I taught them well in terms of music. One of the few things I am proud of!
Throw your faith in me. I'll take you some place brand new....

Strangest thing but I was out and saw some cassette tapes for sale, like new albums. I think they are experiencing a little resurgence atm. Who is buying them? I guess for nostalgia and maybe younger ppl for the novelty of it?

Idk but if Deftones released their new album on cassette I'd probably buy it, would need to get me another walkman though lol.

it's been the hipster thing for the past 15 years now which ironically makes it normal again

I wonder if Chino used that vocal effect rig he's been doing live, on the new album?

Hopefully this record is more experimental than Ohms. The KNY comparisons via Stephen make me hopeful for that.

I like it when Deftones get weird.

I just noticed they played Cherry Waves the other night.

Here's hoping to some other wrinkles in the setlist in Philly tomorrow.

sharinglungs

I'm hoping they change it up for MSG tonight, what are the chances they ever play there again ya know?

Officially less than a week away from the end of this part of the tour.

Agreed. Can't believe they are headlining arenas.

Tomorrow is my 51st Deftones show.

I told myself DDLD '22 was my last show. The live shows for me left a lot to be desired, then I heard their live set from Lollapaloza last year and they sounded great.

Thought I'd give them another shot when they announced this tour because I was certain they would have a new album and play new material.

Well, here we are. lol.

Formant

Final chance for new material this tour may be tonight at MSG.

I'm 99% sure that's not happening though

This run of shows seems to have gone really well. Dead pleased for them.

I just need new music. I can't say I get excited for much across the arts these days, but Deftones are and always will be my band, and everything around a new album is always one of the highlights of my year. This one now feels like it's been coming for ages. I don't care whether they play anything new live, even when I see them in June. I just want the album announced.
I could float here forever

I'm a staunch setlist complainer/arena hater. But after watching some live shows on YouTube from this tour I'm tempted to catch them on leg 2. The band and especially Chino look like they're having a blast on stage.

TwixPheonix

I hope they at least tease something tonight during the MSG show. New music would be absolutely great seeing as how good every concert has been performance-wise and a new song would speed up the hype train really well. Even if we don't though, which is purely speculation, I won't mind because they sound amazing. I'm super impressed with how consistently good they have been this tour.

TwixPheonix

Also, this is a pretty big reach but I noticed that the Deftones logo for the MSG show tour poster is different (its on their latest instagram story). Kind of looks like the same white snake inside the letters but im not sure. The poster also has a MSG logo added underneath.

I think that's just the lines from the wall/bricks.
Edit: just saw the other one, I think it's that the lighting in the photo but it does look like a cool texture
