I didn't get the WMAs, but I didn't get a link from anyone. I had to kind of forge my own adventure and got 192kbps mp3s

Uhhhh, yeah I don't know about this album.

There's some cool stuff going on with pretty much every song, but I feel like they're leaning too heavily on the unorthodox song structures/left-field transitions in an attempt to keep the songs interesting. Just makes a lot of songs feel unnecessarily stilted or undeveloped since they don't end in a satisfying way.

Seems like Steph just wants to play bass at this point. Either him or Chino needs to truly start taking over lead guitar duties. If they want to have these super simple two note low-end riffs, they need to put something more interesting over them with the lead guitar or just write better riffs (there were times when I felt like I was listening to Korn). I remember feeling like Rubicon's verse riff had the same problem. They're basically pulling a Hum/Failure with that simple low end drive, without the interesting guitar leads on top. A lot of songs could've benefited from a solo as well.

Sergio and Abe are definitely the highlights here. Chino and Frank bring a heavy 80s vibe which is cool, but this might be some of his worst lyrics/delivery, and Frank feels like he's there to try and spice up boring Steph riffs with synths that ultimately aren't interesting enough to recover it. Steph either needs to full on channel Meshuggah and write some really complex riffs if he's going to rely on that low end or switch back to at least a 7-string because this is getting a little tired. Best parts of his were the fast paced metal riffs that almost could've been on Adrenaline. More of that and less 0-2 chugga please.

Really wish they'd have written at least one full on Deftones ballad a la Beauty School or Entombed. It's not as cohesive of an album as we were led to believe either. Yeah, the album flows unlike say SNW and has a vibe that is super consistent, but KNY I think still works better track to track with its transitions. KNY had much better intros, outros, and segues in my opinion. In the end, the sameness of Ohms might work against it with it being difficult to really tell songs apart from each other very well.

Its refreshing to read a different take to be honest so no problems from me. Question: dont you expect the songs blurring in each other to stop once you get to know the record better? I remember when i first heard WP all songs sounded alike to me.

@rainnyx4  I agree with almost everything you said there to a degree

For me this is a grower album also, first 2 listens and I really enjoyed it, but I know it will get better over time. I wasn't into Diamond Eyes at first, but that grew on me over a 5 year period

I don't think I've ever had this problem with Deftones records before. Even records that I'm not a big fan of (S/T and Gore) I could still easily pick the songs apart in my head. I think a major issue with this album are the choruses having really similar paces and vibes. The hooks all feel so similar it's making it difficult to remember which songs have which melodies. Steph's simple low-end riffs doesn't make it any easier because after you've heard one, you feel like you've heard them all.

After hearing Genesis I was worried this band had gone the way of Tool, releasing the same album over and over again to less and less dramatic effect. I only listened to FI a few times, got bored, and can't remember a single thing from it.

I'm on Pompeji so far, honestly I do somewhat think that there are lots of sections throughout this album (so far!) that sound like they are about to explode magnificently, but then they just transition into a smooth chorus. Overall though, that's the only major downside I've found with this album. Oh, and I found the seagulls!

I have a feeling I'll be the same (though I have yet to hear it). I did NOT like Ohms (the single) at all the I heard it. Took 3-4 listens for me to appreciate it and nowI love it. And I did not like KNY at all. Like, I was mad-levels of disappointed in that album. 3 years later, I found myself loving it.

Ok, just heard This Link Is Dead. Wow. This song actually fulfills the buildup with great explosive passages and awesome screaming. Love this one.

Wheeey woke up in the UK to you all going crazy! I found it.... Not listened yet... SOOOOONNN.

Also, a reminder that Chino is on BBC 6 Music today at 12 noon UK time:

https://twitter.com/maryannehobbs/status/1308700864161480704

CHINO @chinomoreno in conversation at 12 noon on:
the new album 'Ohms'
the condition of the band in 2020
'White Pony' at 20 + the remix project 'Black Stallion'

Fucking hell, I just woke up. Anyone's got a link to that?

I'm not sure what the crack is with this page in different countries but it's here for me:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000mq7q

Or check BBC Sounds if that's worldwide?

Starts 1hr 30 mins in and lasts for 30 mins. Great interview! Highlights: Chino has been using the Houseparty app during lockdown (!), he doesn't know where the eyes on the album art are from, and Black Stallion is complete and has a different artists for each song, may do some kind of official announcement on the list of collaborators when they announce the release.

theres a lot of honey in this album

I described the album as the band bringing every style and idea they have ever brought to the table and evolved and refined them to a masterful level that only a band with as much experience and chemistry as Deftones could achieve.

anyone getting a "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date" message from amazon about the album? they still haven't figured anything out about the shippinh this close to release date? no way i'm getting it on the 25th now. maybe i should cancel it and get one from best buy real quick?

I just finished my first listen through of the whole album.  Very satisfying.  So far I love it.  I don't think there's a bad song on the album.  However, I don't know that I could pick a standout yet.  I need more time with it.  It does seem to be missing a slower, moodier song akin to Sextap/Anniversary/Digital Bath/etc.  Maybe that's it's biggest drawback.  But my initial impressions are way better than they were on Gore.

If I were pressed to criticize it, I'd say it feels almost incomplete.  It needed one or two more songs to step into a less hard-hitting zone to round out the whole album.  But that's a minor gripe I suppose.  My opinion might change as I get more familiar with the songs, because on my first listen through I was pretty blown away by all 10 tracks.

I will say that Ohms as a closer is really satisfying.  That song has grown on me quite a bit, and now in the context of the album, I can see that it both fits and is necessary because it's different from the other tracks in significant ways.

Urantia, Error and TLID are my standout favorites..so far

Agreed

TLID and Headless are my favorite tracks after 1 playthrough. Ceremony is probably the only track that didn't stand out to me at all.
