why is this random youtube dude mentioned constantly here

who cares

My bad, I'm just coming back to SL for the first time in a while, didn't realize he was so controversial around here. He's pretty well known, probably the best known music critic on YouTube, but he's just another critic.

Basically I only care about his opinion when it aligns with my own, ya feel me

really, i don't give a rats ass if he thought they were the worst band ever, or the best band ever. fuck'em

ChubbyChino

Fantano was taken to the hospital. He ate tide pods.

Bqad

Stop talking about Anthony Shitstaino. Should be a bannable offense.

Gaz

I never give a shit about these dickhead reviewers, if you like a band or an album, enjoy it, don't let someone else's opinion change yours

It's different  ;)

That's a shifty response man! But probably a fair one. I just can't figure out why he'd share 6 songs. SIX! From an upcoming album of only 10. That's really just insane to me. Aren't y'all disappointed? There's barely any album left to enjoy or be curious about. Not trying to be a dick at all. But in all honesty, aren't any of  you disappointed?

I'm quoting myself in hopes of getting a response  ;)

Radio play here in the UK from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 6 Music right now as predicted!

i liked a lot of 2003 stuff on the DeftonesLive channel because it seems a lot of that era was missing for some reason for a long time.

It's some of the best live stuff they've ever done. I watch them over and over again.
Peak Deftones especially for live performances and overall moodiness.  Sometimes I hate that they ever went that dark because I know nothing will ever compare to it again.

I don't hear them on the radio ever, because all we get here is oldies and country. That's it.

Inkblades

They usually get play on Sirius' Liquid Metal when they put out new music. Jose Mangin played Ohms on his songs of the week show.

BBC 6 Music and the DJ is Mary Anne Hobbs, she used to present the Radio 1 Rock Show in the 90's and 2000's. She plays Deftones quite a lot in the daytime, I've heard her play Change, BQAD, Minerva and now Ohms. She is a fan of the band also

Man I can't stop listening to Ohms. It's just a solid, straightforward and concise Deftones track. And it's been a long since a deftones video actually makes me love the song even more. So many of the black and white shots of the band would make great posters - especially the shot of Frank. Cannot contain my excitement for this album!

Agree, that era was like nothing they ever did again. I saw them perform when they were touring with Poison the Well and Denali. Watching the two opening acts the concert was amazing, but when Deftones came on stage the energy completely shifted. They opened with Hexagram and the performance/presentation was the rawest I've ever seen them put on. Fast forward to the BlackDiamondSkye tour and they're playing this huge open venue and it's just not the same. Though 2009 era was Chino at his best since a very long time. The days of them playing small music halls are virtually over but I still can't wait to seem them tour on this new album.

About 2003, I had the chance to discuss that recently on the Musically Meditated podcast. I hated the Wembley 2003 performance when I first watched it. It threw me off, I didn't like how Chino replaced the high notes on Digital Bath with those inhales, lots of things felt odd. I just didn't know any better at the time, I was a noob when it came to this band.

Today Wembley is my favorite Deftones recording. This whole era, specifically the second half of the year, has their most crafted performances (lightnings, transitions, etc.), and the performances were so very intense. There's this one particular performance of Digital Bath, in Montreal, where Chino pulls off the notes in a very different manner, I don't think he even did it out of this show. Very raw and powerful stuff.

And it's special because you know these raw performances happened because of the inner turmoil. I wouldn't want them to go through that again. But did it pay off musically!

From the hype I got from the new song, I listened to Gore again, and I'm kind of worried because I really don't enjoy that album. I don't know if it's mostly because of the production, but a lot of these songs I'm tempted to just skip. Finger crossed I guess

Going through their catalog and Riviere is a monster of a song. It might be one of their best. Huge sounds, Chino on point vocally, with beautiful bass lines throughout from Chi. I can't seem to play it loud enough. I love SNW as it is, but if all that ever came out from that time period were Riviere I don't think I would complain.

Penicks

they made 4 consecutive perfect records in atf, wp, st and snw, especially because you can follow the (d)evolution of the band so well. diamond eyes should've been their Glorious Resurgence, the band rising from the ashes, but i've been waiting 3 albums now for that feeling to take effect in the songs. really hoping this one does it

Sleeping_Giant

Yeah Riviere is a masterpiece. For me whole SNW is the top tier of their catalogue - combat, beware, rapture, cherry waves, kimdracula, riviere. These songs basically combine everything what I love this band for. Sadly most of the fans won't agree with me. I hope Ohms will let me feel the same thing...

I don't know man. Diamond Eyes is pretty damn good. Better than ST and SNW. More consistent at least. Those are great albums but they have some duds. DE is concise and cohesive.
