Am very excited to listen to the album on friday after reading all your reactions. I just hope that the album is also a grower cause a lot of you are loving it on the first listen. I feel like the Deftones albums that stayed with me the most are the ones that took me a while to figure out - like the Self Titled and White Pony. Unravelling the songs over weeks and months always ended up having this long lasting effect. Am hoping it's the same case with OHMS and that I don't get bored of it after a couple weeks.

That being said - i'm fucking pumped!
Trust me, there's a lot to unpack here. This might be their most adventurous album since White Pony in terms of just the scope of sounds on the album and how unorthodox the composition is on some songs. Much like WP, every song has it's own really specific identity, there's not a lot of sameness on this album.

I'm just two listens in, but I believe it is as much a grower as it is an instant hit, simply because there's just so much to listen for. The songs also seem pretty complex structurally, so its not just a bunch of instantly recognizable hooks which will stay in your head for a week but grow tiring quickly after that. There's a lot to sink in, but its all just obviously good
You kind of beat me to my point before I posted it, but you pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly

This is a White Pony level of masterpiece album. For me this may be even personal fav ever (S/T - 2nd place, Koi/Gore - 3rd).

After all these years band + Terry pulled off such well crafted music. I'm so fucking impressed and happy now. Goosebumps and everything...

Radiant City has a pretty unique chorus.

So, is Headless gonna be the sleeper of Ohms? A beautifully trippy song.

After my first listen it's the track I immediately returned to. I think it's Chino's vocals.

I agree - it does seem to be one of their more complex albums.

I honestly kind of agree. This may just be my number 2 after WP so far. I really am trying to remain aware of the hype and how that may be affecting my opinion, but honestly it's just that fucking good.

I feel like people are gonna downplay Genesis just because it's a single. [DaveChappelleVoice] Nah, that shit is still a BANGER, SON! [/DaveChapelleVoice]

They are so back and forth/ contrast so much in within a single track and link them together really well. They definitely had time to think that stuff out a bit more this time.

I'm just going to go read that Sterogum review again.... that was some funny shit.... starts off using every adjective he has in his arsenal, then just gives up and makes up ridiculous one liners.
It doesn't even matter how accurate the reviewer was. It's one of the best I've read for ages though 😂

Urantia isn't getting enough love. Chino's voice is incredible in that one.

For sure. I feel that way about a few tracks. Different isn't bad tho

SMLiberator

hot take: the first half of Error might be their most "radio rock" sounding piece of music ever, but in an oddly unconventional way. also, the bridge/outro really reminds me of something off Adrenaline (Fist?) especially the really high, distant vocals

TSoM is this albums' Geometric Headdress. the verses might be sonically the heaviest part of this record, but everything is just so goddamn SEXUAL.
i'm confused??

When I heard Chino play Ceremony in June, I thought it would be a divisive song because the chorus is definitely more on the poppy side of Deftones. But fuck, is it infectious. Also, you really have to give them props for packing so many switch-ups and changes in a song that's only three and a half minutes.

Barely any Deftones song before stoked me at 1st listen as much as basically each track here. Of course it's a complex thing and will grow on us + on a friday we gonna get better sound quality but I can feel already that this finest Deftones quality. I lacked Terry produced Deftones in my life and havent realized it till now.

I might be repeating myself here, but sweet godly fuck, TSoM is sooooo fucking sexy. Like really, that outro just sounds like the best lovemaking imaginable. Somehow sexier than No Ordinary Love and Digital Bath put together.

This might be my favorite.

Sonically, there's a totally diff type of mix happening on the first single/closing track. I'll wait until I have the real copy in my hands to comment on that more though. The Kick and Guitars for example - different EQ moves and multi-band compressor tactics on that one in particular.

Chino's voice on Urantia is pristine. How does he do it? I'm shocked it wasn't the first single, honestly - it's too damn catchy.

The song is a crazy blend of metal and trip-hop. That description sounds like something that could be ridiculous, but they make it look effortless.

it's not that poppy imo, kinda dark stuff really

fuck it's nice to finally have a new album by them. longest wait between records, but seems to be worth it

SMLiberator

you did a great job, Ves. I probably would've given in to it if the low quality leaks were more easily available, and jesus I'm glad I wasn't spoiled.
