on a subtle note, Abe totally rules on this album
don't give me none of that " the mix is poo poo and he's lost innit durrr..."

this is simply some of his best work

The mix IS bad, but Abe is a beast all over this thing. I think it's some of his best ever.

Never said it wasn't . Just was saying I can still hear him do his thing and yes, he is awesome on this album.

Lol at that Matt Hyde interview. How they have not gone back Terry amazes me. Eros was the last time they worked with him right?
It's my one wish for the next album. I still consider Date pretty much the sixth member of Deftones even though they haven't worked with him in so long (apart from an a small contribution to the mix on Gore).
I could float here forever

When I first listened through this whole album all the way through my ears were ringing and I wasn't playing it any louder than I play other music all the time. I think there might be something to that whole "this mix hurts my ears" thing.

The direct download from purchasing the vinyl is much better. I was listening to the rip for a while..the mix is still off, but the download from the bands webstore is was less tinny than what I was listening to for a while.

They definitely need to get back with Terry Date. I was at the team sleep event in Woodstock and remember standing outside around a fire when Chino told us Matt Hyde was going to produce the next deftones album. I wanted to ask about Terry but it's tough when you're actually standing next to Chino to tell him what he should be doing.

from_musings

not saying anything there at that time - was a good decision. it's not like they would cancel their plans because of what you would've said. good call

Couple weeks later - I am still enjoying Gore very much. Listen to it often at work and in the car. Almost never skipping a song, except sometimes (L)MIRL and Phantom Bride (both beautiful songs but just not always in the mood for the "sadder" sound they have).
Loving it all though, not sick of any songs and it's amazing listening with some bass and with good headphones or audio system  :D

Good job band.

Shameless pic of my white vinyl being played lol

I think I've already moved on from this album. This might be the quickest turn around of any of their albums for me. Threw on KNY and WP yesterday. Damn, those albums were pretty much perfect start to finish. Gore is such a let down, after the first three songs I pretty much lose all interest in it.

They need to reevaluate some shit for their next one.

only pieces remain

kny is far from perfect.

Blech...  KNY and DE?  Worst two Deftones albums to me.

Oh, you said WP not DE.  Yeah, that's understandable.  But it's hard to compare much to WP.

Only on the board that thinks S/T and Gore are two of their best albums.

S/T is arguably one of their if not best albums ever. Thats not an opinion either, its a fact.. Theres a reason they got #2 on billboards and havnt gotten beaten till now with Gore..

I think that had a lot to do with the fact that it came after WP. It is a classic though.

Still digging Gore but don't know where it ranks yet for me. I haven't worn it out yet though. I find it better to just listen to it all the way through than just randomly playing tracks.

nicklav

I'm still enjoying most of the album, with the exception of the title track. The vocals on the chorus really bug me.

pelican fly

I have a feeling that song is gonna be the new rocket skates on their set list

nicklav

God, I hope not.

Gore is definitely a good record. Maybe not my favorite Deftones sound, but it is still a great record. This will hold me off for maybe two more years then I will get greedy again ha. Im sure if they even make another record it will sound a lot different than even this one does. I mean we are talking these guys are in their mid forties. Shit I was surprised at the amount of screaming on Gore.

sing blue silver

The first three tracks don't really do much for me. P/T is alright but I got kinda tired of it after far too few listens. Acid Hologram is perhaps some of the most uninspiring and lazy guitar work I've ever heard from the band save for maybe one riff and Franks effects on this one are almost cringe levels of bad and cliche. Doomed User is fine but the mix is just so bad and the effects on Chino's voice are obnoxious. The intro riff to Pittura Infamante is like something a 16 year old would write for their first song but I forgive it because the rest of the song is spot on. The part I dislike most about the album is the ending of the title track. It's like the end of Return of the King. It just keeps fucking going and it overstays it's welcome by a solid fucking minute.

Those are probably my biggest critiques though. Overall I am really in love with this album. Hearts / Wires, Phantom Bride, Geometric Headdress (L)mirl and Rubicon are some of the best tracks I've heard from these guys in a long time. Not to say I disliked DE and KNY (though they're a bit lower on the totem pole of Deftones discography for me) but this is far and away the best album of the Sergio era. DE and KNY were just kind of too easily digestible and didn't really offer many challenging or interesting parts. With Gore I'm finding new parts and it just keeps growing on me all the time. I guess we'll see in a year or two but I have a feeling this one will have more staying power than the last two. I can still put on the first five albums and love them every time but with DE and KNY I don't get that same feeling every time.

Also, gotta say, Abe seems to get better and better on every album. It's like with every album I find myself thinking "oh yeah, he's seriously a really fucking good drummer." Kinda wish Steph would drop the 8 string and go back to the 7 but we know that'll never happen.

I don't think Gore is their best, it's probably fourth for me at the moment... but Self Titled is definitely their absolute best. Not even a second thought for me.

Ditto, sir.
