Listening to Royal. This album is so much better. Fucking Hell.
I don't care if this is a pointless topic.

I spent like a full year listening to DE everyday. As well as all past albums.
But like someone said here. KNY is all surfaces. I got over it after a month.
Im bummed

- i must say i actually do like KNY, it's a great album, with great songs.
It's just every album before it, has taken me on a trip i can't even explain.
I really miss the insanely melodically creative, emotionally passionate chino.

It's doesn't matter it's all just personal preference anyway I found DE to be too simple especially with Stephens chugging riffs and Sergio basically just followed what Steph was doing on that album , Still a great album though

Unfortunately, yes. The songs on KNY are all objectively seen fine and dandy, but I really miss the desperate, harshly screamed, sometimes whispered and sometimes abrasive vocals like on the previous records. Chino's voice on KNY is constantly up high in the sense of shouting (not screaming) the semi-good lyrics towards the listener. The only exception to me is Gauze, in which he really steps back and returns to the the beautiful vocals he put on songs like 976-Evil, Kimdracula, etc.
Also, every songs seems to be on "full force", yet I'd really like to hear something more subtle like Digital Bath or Rivière. Then again, the heavier songs like Poltergeist and Goon Squad can't (vocally seen) compare to bangers like Rats!Rats!Rats! or WGTB, although I love both of them and think that the breakdown of Goon Squad belongs to one of the best moments of KNY.
In terms of lyrics, the only lyrics I seem to really enjoy are on Graphic Nature, Tempest, Rosemary and Gauze and to a degree What Happened To You?

Diamond Eyes is one of the best albums that Deftones has put out. Top 3 in their discography

After KNY DE looks pretty solid.
no fist to fuckin' save you from

There Will Be Blood

I prefer Beauty School over Entombed. Poltergeist over Rocket Skates. Both albums have their ups and downs.

feel the same way.  definitely enjoying KNY more.  I feel the songs have more depth.  More creative writing.

KNY is probably their most solid since WP.  The technical songwriting is finally getting to where I wish they'd been several albums ago.  It definitely blows anything they've done to this point out of the water as far as progressive stylings go.  But, it's a fairly even album as far as ups and downs go.  I can see why people wouldn't like the album because of that.  I'd actually liked to have heard one purely ferocious song a la WGTB/7 Words/Rats and one really weird/soft song a la Anniversary/Teenager/PCP to give the album more peaks and valleys.  But at their ages I can't really fault them for this.

No song on KNY really falls flat in my opinion (though my fantasies of Romantic Dreams being an even more epic Royal were crushed).  But I nearly always skip Rocket Skates (bridge is boring and predictable as fuck), Prince sounds too much like Rx Queen, and several songs don't sound quite finished (Love these songs but I would've liked a little more fleshing out of Diamond Eyes, YSTB, Beauty School, Risk, and TPID).

Not sure if anyone watched that show or not, but I am right in the middle of it now! Great show.

I'm not asking them to cater to my exact taste, just as there not asking me to buy new records from them.

I'm still absorbing Koi No Kokan...
Like all previous deftones albums, it takes a while for me to lock in some "emotions" and experiences with each album.

As a matter of fact, I'm just now content with Diamond Eyes. hahaa.

Don't rush an album...upon release people will listen the hell out of it until they are tired of it, and then criticize it.
Remember, this is a band that you've loved for years and for different reasons. You aren't going to
hear "your album" again. You may hear rythyms and examples of the original, but it's NOT the same.
Don't make that mistake.

They both have ups and downs. 976-EVIL continues to grow on me and the initial excitement for some KNY songs is waining (Gauze, Graphic Nature) and some I wasn't much of a fan of to begin with (Tempest, and I downright loathe Swerve City) but I still gotta consider KNY a better effort overall. Not quite the immediacy or excitement of DE but I find its a more mature, evolved effort and the musicianship seems improved, except Stephen's sometimes lackadaisical playing. Neither ranks near my favourite deftones record but I think I'd take KNY as a whole album over DE. Still absorbing it though.

I've been doing the usual and visiting the album before it, so I have been getting back into DE again.

KNY is soo great, that no one care about the music video.

Robotsatemygrandma

U stoopid. KNY is teh much betterz 1!!!  :o

Kidding.

Not really.

For me personally speaking, KNY has the elements that DE lacks, the same ones that are the reasons why I love this band. That atmospheric mood they can create and that tone which is bordering on experimental but still tangible in presentation. KNY just seems more refined, although I know DE was recorded in an extremely short amount of time, thus keeping it's rawness and infancy like Around the Fur.

But I will state this... I listened to DE more when it was released then I have listened to KNY after it's release. So subconsciously I could be saying something different to my above statement. lolz
