Hey guys, some of you might have seen this already. Just thought i'd post it.
But this is a really cool article on how Diamond Eyes was produced and recorded.

Penicks

probably the worst part about diamond eyes

or it could be the lyrics

or it could be steph's horrible riffs

Yeah the production never really impressed me it was alright but apart from some select points like beauty school I though it sounded flat especially with Abe I missed his signature snare sound.

Whether you dislike or like the production, its still an interesting read.

It's cool hearing Nick's approach in making Chino's vocals being the only ambient part of the record's sound. It makes this record sound pretty unique.

I actually prefer the production on DE to KNY.

Caín

"And as for the album's simply spectacular drum sound? "There were mics everywhere, just an insane mic setup," Cunningham says with a laugh."

Yeah right. The drums on Diamond Eyes are laughable. Tinny pieces of shit with no punch.

Yeah I miss that about Terry Date he may not be as helpful when it comes to the pre recording process but he certainly does know how to record Deftones music, he always got an amazing balanced and dynamic sound, to me it just feels like Nicks recording skills are letting the music down a bit with Terry I always felt I was hearing the song at it's best but with Nick I can't help but think he could have done it better it's like his albums are too flat sounding all the elements sort of merge together where as Terry's sounded dynamic and lively as if all the different elements we're fighting to be on top and I think it worked.

Hmm, i don't see why people keeps bashing the production on Diamond Eyes.
I agree that the drums sounds a bit flat at some points (especially during "Prince"), but i think the prouction is very nice. Heavy and clear, at least in my opinion.

Whether you like or not, one have to agree that Deftones at least never puts out an album that sounds exactly like the one before it.

I really don't hear what's so "wrong" with the DE production. I think it's crisp, clear and just like it should be

Even though I'm an Adrenaline and ATF snob, I think DE is some of their next best work.

CMND/CTRL has no drums. All you hear is the hi-hat. And it sounds like 96k Mp3s.

Sometimes it sounds amazing but it's like he struggles with getting the balance of elements right, when a song gets really busy it all just seems to merge together and become a wall of sound it's like he doesn't know how to capture all the subtleties that are going on you can hear it in the drums especially ,Abe usually cutx through the music with that harsh snare tone he's known for be he was sort of pushed to the back on DE apart from Beauty School which was well done.
