KNY has it's own momentum. There are stacks of people who love it on the music alone with hardly any physical promotion behind it.

Also, I think the lesser sales brings up the old illegal download issue, which is a pain in the ass to argue over.

Sure, I'm one of those who didn't need any promotion to get me to buy the album but the point of promoting an album is to attract new fans. There are stacks of people who love it on the music alone but that's not the point, there are more people that haven't heard of Koi No Yokan or Deftones and reaching out to them is the whole point of promoting an album.
We're die hard fans so we check up on the website and the forum but what about casual fans who don't, they may not even know that a new Deftones album is out.
So it doesn't matter how great the record is, without some form of promotion, you're missing out on attracting prospective new fans.
Case in point - I had liked Deftones since I heard My Own Summer but forgot about them as the years went by. Then one day I saw the video for Mein on MTV (I still think it's a great song and will stand by this despite what others on the forum say) and went out and bought my first Deftones CD ........ and then all the rest!
With the quality of this album, who knows how many new fans could have been garnered. Opportunity wasted!
Of course we all know illegal downloads have had a massive impact but there's no excuse not to try and get as many sales from an album you can even if you know there is no hope of ever achieving the volume of sales from a decade ago regardless of the quality of the music.
So absorb that and understand that!! ;) ;)

I guess nowadays for most bands/artists album sales are supposed to reach the break-even point (where costs=revenues), meaning that touring is where the profits come from.

If you think about it, KNY sold roughly as much as Diamond Eyes, without the costs of making the videos (or maybe just one). So my guess is that so far KNY is bringing more money in than DE.

I think that this sadly may well be the case. Whether the record company is just trying to break even is up for debate however maybe they felt that any prospective sales generated by a video wouldn't be enough to warrant or offset the cost of making a music video.
Ok, so get creative and find some other way to promote the album!
But they've done absolutely nothing and that's just plain laziness and neglect.
I agree with Audeamus completely, whoever was/is in charge of marketing should be fired for being a lazy, unimaginative. useless, no good slacker!

I thought SNW would have sold more than that....my 2 copies didn't help much :/

This album has legs.. the music is doing it on it's own.. no promotion, no video... and still charting :D
And somewhere, There's someone who cares. With a heart of gold, To have and to hold.

Are their shows selling out?  Maybe the record isn't selling all that well, but even if some of their shows are selling out it's a testament to the quality and reputation of KNY (and of course everything else they've done over the past two+ decades!)
You're a star, you blaze out like a sharp machine..

I think so I've seen people on here talking about sold out shows recently

All of their UK shows in February are sold out I believe.
