If anything, a lot of so-called hardcore fans take Deftones for granted, and act like they need to follow your orders. The way I see it, they're my favourite band and when I go see them again next month, I want nothing more from the setlist than to let 'em do whatever the fuck they want. Their setlist could be A LOT more 'predictable' and worse than it is so it irritates me when people whine about it. It's good. They played fucking Riviere on every show of the last tour, and Bored, I wouldn't complain about that. If they WERE playing "mx-ratsx3-lifter" on this last tour... you'd still be moaning that they weren't playing other songs.

If they let 'fans' pick the setlist.. that wouldn't be a good idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a set full of rarities as much as the next guy but if the band don't feel like it, there's no point watching them do that. Let's be reasonable man.

yeah to be honest deftones fans are definitely spoiled and feel entitled for some reason, lol

they have a huge discography and a ton of great songs, no matter what they play someone is gonna be happy and someone is gonna be disappointed... I am just grateful this band (my favorite band) has lasted for 7 albums (not mentioning Linus demos and the rarities and covers they have done) thats a ton of good music, how many other bands can offer that?

Im just mad I discover deftones a lil too late :-\ 2005-2045 :'(

Well, most fans don't check the setlists religiously, or have the time/money/whatever to see all of their shows. Besides, they busted out Riviere for this tour, that was awesome.

just for the fuck of it  give me 5 songs you w 8)ould pick.

mrpelon94

that would be cool if they changed it up once in a while.....i keep looking at the setlistfm to see if they changed there setlist and nope...still the same.....i wanna hear rats rats rats...and when girls telephone boys and more off of SNW...

deftones86

I think we have a right to feel entitled if youve seen the record sales it seems they have 65, 000 true fans. This band should have probably died after snw came out. Fans make the band. If it wasn't for us they'd be playing shows for 4 people and working in the cd department of best buy.

DeftonesNZ

Yeah but a record sale doesn't automatically translate to a hardcore fan alot of people are just casual listeners who don't care for or know much of the more obscure or rare tracks alot of those people want to hear the songs like "Change" that they can sing along to, for example I doubt everyone who buys their cd's belongs to a fan club like this or follows them as closely as we do and it's only a small potion of the fanbase that are seeing them over and over again I would say it's bit too much of a good thing in some cases I would be stoked just to see them live even once, I wouldn't give a fuck what they played.

Northcal

I will definitely go  see them on this upcoming tour.I hope they surprise me wit a few songs I haven't heard live** lifter, battle axe, bloody cape,mx,mein, korea, minus blindf :'( :P 8)old, shit like that!

Depending on how long you've been a fan or how long/how many times you've seen them live, there really cant be that many songs that you've never seen unless they just have never played them. I think for most people who have seen them 10x or more, it's probably us more wanting them to stop playing certain songs. I could certainly do without hearing 7 words live ever again. Of course that will never happen, But its not going to make me start bitching that I dont get to hear The Boys Republic.

I wish they would retired change and 7words. :-X

Bifrost

I could see 7 words being retired but change?? GTFOH... everytime that intro starts, the sound effect frank does gives me chills, its like the whole place goes in a trance, such a great song

Braincleaner

7 words could be in need of retirement, but i agree that they could keep playing Change, at least for while, although i think every band has songs that reaches a point where they should be retired.

To me, that goes for Change as well.

My girlfriend was gonna get me tickets to see them in February but I told her not to bother after checking recent set lists.

sooniletugo

Change may be one of their biggest hits but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's an amazing song, no way it should be retired or dropped from their set ever. Infact its popularity just makes it even better when played live, and everyone sings along. I noticed they've dropped Minerva and that's a shame, that's one of their absolute best songs to me and much like Change, always gives me chills and takes me to a special place. I wouldn't mind if they dropped 7 Words and I don't know why they haven't, even for one show, but whatever.

DeftonesNZ

Yeah alot of people are sick of Change because it was overplayed due to it's success but I love it ,I still get a tingle down my spine as soon  as the guitar starts, 7 words though could go the band don't even like playing it,

sooniletugo

Exactly. Gives me mad chills like no other song I can think of, and its also the song that got me into Deftones. 7 Words I remember Chino said was his least favourite song, so I wonder why they insist on closing every show with it.

"Change" will never go away in their live set..Its their most appealing piece of audio to the masses

and i love it.... so there

Penicks

it's also something i don't understand

on one hand, you can be like "yeah but the band should play what they feel like playing", which makes sense

but on the other hand, in interviews they're like "yeah if there's one song i'd retire it's 7 words because that was written when i was sixteen years old, but the fans want to hear it"

some shitty fans if they just wanna hear their biggest hits, it's not even remotely their best stuff. i mean, i think going to a concert means that one is a pretty dedicated fan

so my conclusion is: the boys are just too lazy to practice their more obscure shit so they're just in their comfort zone

which is a shame

DeftonesNZ

I doubt that's the case the earlier stuff is probably more demanding on them, the guitar was more intricate and Chino has to wear his voice out by screaming lots and the guys are pushing 40 it's definitely not taking the easy route playing the real fast high energy stuff,I think it's more of a case of playing what they think the fans want to hear and for the majority of fans it's the hits they want to be able to sing along and experience the nostalgia, Just like any fan base it's only a minority of the fans who get right into the b-sides and rarities side of things and going to a concert doesn't mean that they are hardcore fans it just means they enjoy the music I doubt everyone who goes to theirs concert follows them as close as we do lol.

So you passed on a free ticket (assuming as a gift) for a Deftones gig?!
