The singles can be hit or miss, but has some of their best songs too like My own summer and Change, but lately the singles arent as good choices as pre SNW.

Kimdracula should have been the first single on SNW
Prince or Royal for Diamond Eyes
Poltergeist or Rosemary for Koi no broken

Anyways, thoughts on singles?

DeftonesNZ

I don't think the best singles have always been chosen but end of the day it's what the record company wants and the songs that are chosen are still decent anyway so it doesn't bother me

sex tape"s video should have been entombed's video!

I don't really care too much about what song is chosen as a single. I got the album either way, so I am good.

Gee

It's true that til SNW singles were perfectly picked : Bored, My Own Summer, BQAD, Change, Digital Bath, Hexagram are all classics. The small exceptions to me being 7 words for which I don't care so much, and Minerva, which is a good song but not among the very best on S/T.

Since SNW things are diferent : while HITE, Rocket Skates and YSTB are very good songs and are among my favorites on the last albums, Mein is still to me one of their very worst and Diamond Eyes or Sextape are quite pale in comparison with Royal or Prince.

As for KNY I think Tempest is, if not's the best, an interesting choice for a first single, as it is to me one of the best songs on the record, musically and lyrically, not mentionning the general mood of the song. I hope the single version won't be 4.30 long though. Poltergeist should be one of the next singles, I think there won't be any discussion there.

Edit : Hell yes Kimdracula should have been a single, maybe not the first -HITE is the most symbolic song of that era on the record- but definitely the following one.

I thought Cherry Waves was a quality deftones song that had a really radio friendly chorus that could've really helped them sell SNW.  I think that was a missed opprotunity.

I do not listen to a single on any Deftones album ever, just about... I'll make an exception to Hexagram and Bloody Cape, though.. I guess I've either played them out when I first got into the band, or play them out when a new album comes out...

In other words, songs I don't think I've heard in years (even though I listen to the CD's all the time) include:
Bored
7 Words
MOS
BQAD
Change
Minerva
HITE
Cherry Waves
Sextape

I do agree a few singles have been misses for me..  Bored, Minerva, Back to School, and Mein I've never been crazy about..  Diamond Eyes, Sextape, and YSTB could have been replaced as singles by other songs on their respective albums.  And MOS and Change, while good songs, never get any play from me because I've heard them so many damn times.  I'm really actually liking the choices of Tempest and Leathers, as those 2 songs are really growing on me.  Could have picked "better" songs, but better is subjective.

I suppose the company is trying to appeal the the most new people they can, knowing the old fans would listen to their stuff regardless.

Rosemary really needs to be the next single, I think it'd get a LOT of radio attention!

I was very surprised that Royal wasn't released as a single.
Although i cross my fingers in hope that Rosemary or Poltergeist will be the next kny single, Swerve city will probably take that spot.

Actually, i think all the albums had unused single-potential.

Adrenaline: Engine N.9
ATF: Around The Fur
WP: Knife Party
S/T: Bloody Cape
SNW: KimDracula/Cherry Waves

It's just me mixing up a bit, i keep forgetting that they were singles since they never charted, i've even started to forget they put put Sextape as a single >_>

Combat would have been a great single...but you would have to cut off all the beginning unless it was made into a total late night art piece

Kimdracula is so much better than HITE, I dunno what they were smoking.

i think that was a bullshit call by the label, as pretty much all of them...

Uhhh.. not sure if you're talking to me, since I never said that...  But what I said was "old fans."  And by Old fans, I would have to say that would be people who have listened to them for at least a decade by now.  If someone has listened to a band for 10 or more years, they're likely to continue listening.  Therefore, releasing singles aimed at them is redundant.

Edit: Nevermind, I forgot the title of the topic lol...  I assumed it was aimed at me because it was the post after mine.  My apologies.

I agree it's all been a bit weird single wise and "really?" since SNW.

Then again everyone want's their personal favorite to be a single but I'd agree with the opinion the latest few singles have not been the stronger songs to push at the masses imho.

I would have gone with Goon Squad or Leathers, come out with a kick to the balls I say but that's probably not the best idea commercially I guess.I'd be stoked if they did something punk rock like that though.Rapture for first SNW single etc.Just once would be cool, dreams are free I guess :P

Tempest is a great song but pretty slow paced and generic for a first single imo, especially with the slow intro.A slap to the face first single would have made my day.I'm REALLY surprised it's not Swerve City. That song sounds like it was written directly with single release in mind.I'd put cash money on it being the second.

They've already said "Swerve City" is the next single so good guess,I would have liked to see leathers as an official single it's a really good song and has great energy and catchy lyrics that are perfect for a single.
