In this day and age I am suprised they haven't come up with a fan video contest.

Yeah I've seen it done before it's a great way to cut cost and build attention around the album but with how sloppily the PR team are at the moment I don't think they could have pulled it off they still haven't announced the winner of that guitar competition

Gauze is awesome ..

Franks work is really great on this song

The main problem I have with this album is that Ill be digging the verse of a song and then as soon as it goes into the chorus, I facepalm. So many good ideas, ruined by the center of the song. "Romantic Dreams", "Gauze" and "Goon Squad" all have this problem, while "Leathers" has the problem of having an intro thats better than the actual bulk of the song. The rest of the album though is pretty much throwaway songs that I just can't get into altogether, pretty much due to them not really sounding like Deftones at all. "Rosemary" is to me the masterpiece of this album. A really good song among this mostly lackluster album and even in general, but even so, sometimes I find something boring about this one as well..... Overall, this is just kind of an epic failure. Non of these songs will stay with me the way the rest of Deftones catalog (not including Diamond Eyes) has....

Hopefully on the next album, they can deliver something closer to the old Deftones style. I'm not saying I want Around The Fur part 2, I'm just saying I want something that makes sense in relation to the rest of the albums before Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. Maybe if they'd just release Eros, I have a feeling I be a little more content, since that seems to be the last TRUE Deftones record.

Best on the album In my opinion.
"Carve your niche."

Gotta say, I still love this record. Keeps getting better and better.

Love Frank's stuff in the chorus of Gauze.

Imo this is top 3 deftones album.

Blows SNW and DE away.

The band seems to have a new energy on KNY. I'm sure this is a stupid statement but I can't think of any music out there that can even compare to this.

Its like the Deftones have created their own musical category.

Yes!

It lacks on their overall "core" sound from the first 4 albums , but so have the last 2 albums they put out before KNY  :(
The thing is this..... KNY works out better than SNW and DE couldve ever imagined as far as them expanding and blending their old style with what they plan to do in the future.

I love this album and its my favorite since White Pony and Deftones ( by far).

Honestly, KNY was in the bottom half of the 'tones discography for me when I first heard it. I've listened to it over 100 times now and can honestly say it has grown on me more than any thee of their albums. Might have cracked top three or four for me after ATF and White Pony with self titled somewhere in the mix. Just waiting for SNW to really hit me now like it has other people haha.

I think SNW should hit you hard after listening to KNY. The songs could have been vastly improved. It seems that they settled so quickly on Chino's ideas. Chino writes good songs and riffs but he really could have improved a lot more on this record.

Anyhow, I am honestly waiting for Eros and the next album. KNY is like adrenaline for me, at the bottom.

It seems too all over the place.  I do like a lot of the songs but it is by far my least favorite tones album.

I'm sure somebody else has already made this connection, but since it's an almost 600 page thread I'm not going to go back and investigate.

Is it possible the band isn't overly fond of the album? The reason I think this is looking at patterns. For the Saturday Night Wrist tour, they pretty much only played 4 songs from it on a regular basis, mostly sticking to older material, and that material has rarely surfaced in concert since. When Diamond Eyes came out, they toured the shit out of it, playing almost all of the songs, with setlists FILLED with tracks from Diamond Eyes. Now with KNY, they're only playing 3-4 songs from it on the tour supporting it, much like SNW. I just feel like if they liked it more they would play more of it live.

Maybe it's not the case. What do you guys think? KNY has really grown on me over the last few months and I now love it. I'm just not certain the band do.

They've already said in interviews they don't like  it as much as the others, Chino has said it bugs him because he knows they could have done better if it weren't for external pressures from people like the record company, he said he is happy with some of the songs but feels over all it was bitsy and incohesive because of the long time it took to make and also because they weren't working together on it.

Interesting, I hadn't read that. Anybody have any links to these interviews or at least remember where they're from?

Also, it seems weird that at this stage in their career they would still be getting pressure from their record company. And it's not like what they turned in was radio-ready anyway, so that one is a head scratcher. It's also funny that he calls it incohesive since to me it flows better than most of their albums. I mean it seems like they purposefully added transitions between songs so they flowed. Oh well...

It sounds like he is referring to SNW. If he is talking about KNY I'm just as confused as you. One of the major selling points of KNY is that it is incredibly cohesive. Chino has said in interviews that they pretty much made the entire thing together and he feels it's some of their best work.

Was talking about SNW
