Chino used to have ONE side project. Now he has three.

team sleep was since 2000 approximately.

not always.

when faith no more put out album of the year in 1997, they did a little 1 week promo tour, then took sev months off. they didnt even tour the album until 2 months AFTER it was released...the setlists got boring and were predictable..patton had at least 3 or 4 other side projects going on at the same time he was clearly more interested in. sound familiar?      I think Chino would rather be in a massive attack/my bloody valentine type band at this point. you even see in interviews with him talking about how he's 40 and isnt going to be screaming his head off much longer....enjoy it while you can..the split is coming...and in 1 year when it goes down, you can go back to this thread and say you heard it here first

Yeah but you could also say it's a positive thing that the album sold well despite the slack promotion which is just the record company's poor marketing and in no way a sign the band are breaking up,the guys are saying they are the happiest and most creative they've been in a long time ,As for Chinos side projects that doesn't mean anything he has always had side projects he's just one of those people who has to keep making music all the time and how do repetitive set lists relate at all to the band breaking up? that's just completely unfounded.

always?
Well since around 2000 when Team Sleep started

It's not like any of them are extremely active though they're are just something he does in his spare time eventually he will have to tour a bit but he's a professional musician I doubt it's going to let it get in the way of his Deftones commitments.

I see what your'e saying but you can't just copy that over to Deftones they're a totally different bunch of guys with different personalities Faith No More was struggling to stay relevant with the changing sounds of the late 90's and you seem to be completely disregard the fact the guys are extremely happy at the moment they say they're are working better together than ever before and that they are full of ideas why would they quit now? Plus side projects are more manageable these days with the internet the way it is Chino can do stuff on tour or at home and just send it through the internet unlike in 97 when Mike would have actually had to be physically present.

The tones are about to tour the shit out of this record.  Touring for a record doesn't have to start the day the record is released.  They will gain many new fans with this record just as they did DE.  I guarantee they make another record and maybe even a few more.  I hope we get some TS before new deftones tho....

Yeah i think alot of people are just saying they're going to break up because they've been together so long they expect it but I don't see any actual signs of it, the guys seem happy so I'll guess they'll keep making music until they're not and I think the important thing is that they still have the same musical direction in mind that's what breaks alot of bands up, I'm pumped for some new team sleep aswell or crosses but I'm really getting excited about palms I think that's going to be real epic.

kurtone

This guys right, the writings on the wall for them to break up.  Chino's put out one record in 13 years with Team Sleep, we're still waiting on the third Crosses EP, and we've got what, two articles and some instagram pics about Palms, yeah, hes real involved in his side projects.

Deftones fans are so gay.  This album really isn't that much different than anything they've done in the past.  It's slightly less heavy than their other records but that's about it.  I guess if that's the only thing you liked about the band that's a good reason not to like this or anything other than their first, second, and fourth records.  But if that's the case you're an idiot metal-head.  This album is definitely their most ambitious artistically.

Basically, STFU FGTS

DeftonesNZ

Yeah it amazes me how they got so many one dimensional fans with their dynamic style, I don't get how people complain that they want an album like adrenaline don't they know they're are just setting themselves up for disappointment? Whether you like it or not I don't think Deftones will ever repeat themselves and I think if they did that's when they would decide to call it quits I'm not saying they re-invent themselves every album but they always make some change which is why I love them.

I wasn't planning on telling my wife i was coming out of the closet until you helped me realise i was gay!

I don't see why Chino having three side projects should affect the band.
It would be a completely different matter if he spent extreme amounts of time on his project rather than
touring and writing with the band, but so far that hasn't been the case.
It was much more uncertain during the SNW period, where  you could say he was close to getting kicked out of the band,
and had his head filled with Team Sleep.

DEFinatelydeftones,fsho

if u knew Deftones, u would know that Deftones could never kick out Chino.....there simply wouldn't be Deftones. Hope that's what u meant. :)
Pushing you back but still you ain't goooooooooone!!!!!!

The only time you'll know is the day they tell us they're no more. Until then, it's all good.

They are just giving space for stuff like Sergio's current run with Quicksand. Chino is probably sorting Palms stuff out as well. It's not like KNY is going to be forgotten in these last few weeks either.

In "Rosemary," has anyone else noticed the background vocals/screaming during the "time shifting" part (e.g. 1:43, 3:44).  It almost sounds like jazz scat screaming and has some very interesting timing/syncopation going on.  After "time" it goes:

1+2+3+4+ 1+2+3+4+
             X   oX oX

The X's are louder than the o's.  The first X is "shifting,"  the rest just sounds like background screaming/vocal noise.  But the timing is blowing my mind.  Very cool stuff.

I wish I could agree but I have no idea what song you're talking about. :)

EDIT: just read all the lyrics and figured out you were talking about "Rosemary"... My favorite song haha so many little gems in this song for me. I love Abe's snare hit during the 2nd "stay with me" part. Chino sings "come...*snare*...sail with me"... The snare is so loud(I'm guessing both sticks hit it) and then he changes to hi-hat... And Then back to the ride cymbal. His drumming makes this part so dreamy.... So simple yet effective. Damn I love this song.
..Yeah don't go there,

I let you get to me

yeah yeah.

Sorry about that, and thanks for pointing that out.  Such a strong song but the intro/outro seem a bit bloated.
