When I first heard the recording of the first time they played "Rosemary", I was so excited because I thought it was a total return to form.

A total return to form how? It's not like that song would have come from Adrenasnooze, ATF or even WP.

Anybody a little disappointed with the mastering?  Seems to be pretty compressed and lacking dynamic range; an unfortunate victim of the loudness wars.  There is an alternative master available online via HD TRACKS that is 24bit/96khz WEB that is a completely different master.  Anybody else have this experience of hear the alternative master... Supposed to sound superior all around

Did anybody see this and verify what this guy is claiming? I don't have any issue whatsoever with the mastering of KNY, and actually prefer to some of the mastering on their other records. I mean, "lacking dynamic range"? WTF is this guy on??

hard to explain. try it, it sounds much brighter, has more noticable lower frequencies, you can hear every instrument clearly and especially the drums and cymbals sound much more natural. It has a much wider, uhm, "dynamic range"I'd say. Just try and you'll notice it yourself.

See the thread I created about this subject.  It has certainly been verified that the mastering of the CD release has been altered from the original master and there is a subsequent loss of sound quality.  Listen to the two masters side by side if you don't believe me, it is night and day with the CD master being greatly inferior.  For a better understanding of the problem here, google 'Loudness War' and read a bit, you'll see that this is a BIG problem for releases over the past 10+ years.  Just glad I discovered the other master that is available!

You know what Koi No Yokan feels like to me? A mixture between S/T and Diamond Eyes, with a dash or two of Saturday Night Wrist thrown in for good measure. It's a strange combination that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

Im not saying it sounded specifically like one of there older works, I just mean the mood of that first recording seemed much more brooding and intimate than that of anything we had heard of Diamond Eyes.
