its not all 'new fans' that love the record. Im a fan since ATF and I love it! Just saying that because the last couple of days Ive seen you post a lot about two camps: the old and new fans.

True. Its all about personal taste and for me personally it also has always been a matter of the state I was in when a deftones record came out. For example,  I could never dig SNW at all, because I was breaking up with with my girl during that year and it was just a bad time in which didnt really enjoy anything at all. Maybe another aggressive album like selftitled would be more the kind of sound I needed and expected from them in that time. But looking back now, I think it has some really interesting and cool parts and songs in it and I listen to the whole record with different ears.
I literally got older with the band being a fan since 1995 and I really like how they evolved as musicians and shaped their unique band-sound over the years, even though sometimes (as mentioned above) our stages of development didnt go exactly parallel all the time. So its not about being a new or old deftones fan, its about them being the soundtrack of my life, just sometimes theyre a few months or years ahead (or behind) but me and them always catch up at a later point in life.

Right now, for me, KNY is the most perfect record they could have written.

I've been blasting the 'tones to everyone I could since 1995. ATF was my previous favorite Deftones album, but KNY is utterly incredible.

i've been a fan since late 1995, & i love KNY & DE. love all their albums, & no i'm not a damn sheep either, just truly dig what they do. diehard fan for sure. i couldn't imagine anyone thinking a deftones song is one of the worst songs they ever heard, that baffles me, with true dog shit like nickelback, trapt, creed, disturbed, papa roach, etc out there.

anyway, "Swerve City", reminds me of the twilight zone episode called "spur of the moment" where this young girl on a white horse gets chased by an older evil lookin lady on a black horse (screamin at her. the young girl is horrifed thinking she's about to be murdered. after a long chase she gets away) turns out the older evil looking lady was actually the same person, just her older self, & she was chasing her to try & warn her not to ruin her life, but she can never catch her, & she only realises who was chasing her when she was younger once she becomes that older miserable lady. that's swerve city to me. i'm a twilight zone freak,  lol

To me though it just sucks I can't shake the feeling that they've had a very consistently enjoyable album cycle throughout their career and this is a kind of a step back and a hiccup for them. Chino said 'I never want to make another deftones record just to make one' but it seems like that's what they've done here.

For me though I only have made music in my life when i was fucked up or felt like i needed to. So I can't see why you'd make a record if you were just having a good time or whatever. That's just me though

Starz

The thing I can't get over is how awful some of the lyrics are. "I'll watch and raise your babies." Eurgh

I think alot of people who don't like it know will come back to it later when they've changed personally and will see why people like ,music especially deftones stuff has so much to do with your state of mind.

Maybe you should try some my chemical romance or dashboard confessional.

Music shouldn't be restricted to one emotion ,i bet one day when you are more content and happy this album will make sense

whiskeyandwine

Anybody a little disappointed with the mastering?  Seems to be pretty compressed and lacking dynamic range; an unfortunate victim of the loudness wars.  There is an alternative master available online via HD TRACKS that is 24bit/96khz WEB that is a completely different master.  Anybody else have this experience of hear the alternative master... Supposed to sound superior all around

Dude I've been following this band since they started and I honestly think you have a stick up your ass right now. I'll turn forty next year and just like the band I've grown up since Adrenaline (my fav) but that doesn't mean we've lost our "edge". Seriously listen to the way you are describing the album "hiccup"?! Me personally I could care less about how anyone feels because that's your damn right but you are sounding very sour. I could understand backlash like this from fans if this album were to drop after Adrenaline but it's twenty years later and you are expecting them to sound like they did when they were twenty. Your expectations are unrealistic that's all.

Take it for what it is, an album made by a bunch of guys who's catalog you already respect. No need for it to be Earth shattering or anything. To me it's probably the most concise and thought out album they have ever made. Does that mean I like it more than Adrenaline?! hell no! But I love it for what it is and at my age I am just thankful that one of my favorite bands is still making quality music that I can still go skate to. Peace.

BTW is it cool to do an album review in this thread?

Yeah I expected as much. I just don't like it, like I said my opinion. It aint the first time i've been told I got a stick up my ass. haha.

But yeah a fellow skater that's cool, you can post reviews here I guess but  I think there's already a thread for that I need to skate again but I'm broke and someone stole my boards both of them!

eh MCR are alright, Dashboard are cool though. I'd rather listen to the used than MCR but that last used album sucked ass.  by the way if that was supposed to be some sort of insult then you failed just sayin, if it wasn't then that's cool.

I think people are getting carried away with xToxin's dislike for KNY.  Being a deftones fan does not mean you are obligated to enjoy every single piece of material they make.  Lets get real here. If their next CD sounds like country, Im out.

Have deftones changed every single album? Yes.  Usually its the instrumentation and song writing that changes while Chino delivers his usual mix of vocal styles.  This time, Chino has changed more than the instrumentation has and I can see why that is a hard pill for some to swallow.  I love KNY personally, but I dont view people who are vocal about not liking it as people with sticks up their asses.   I see them as people that wish their music didnt go so far the other way.  There is nothing wrong with that.

That there is the reason why you don't like this album. They aren't "fucked up" on anything. Probably tequila and weed...maybe some other shit, but atleast it's not meth like it used to be. They're in a different, happier mood and want to harp on that. One of their brothers/close friends almost died and they've realized that they can still do things that Chi can't. That's some life awakening shit man. I just feel like some people are asking too much from this band. My review to cum...
..Yeah don't go there,

I let you get to me

yeah yeah.

LOL I'm sure it wasn't. I've had plenty say the same to me.

Not trying to harp on you I just think your hopes/expectations aren't realistic.

Hell yeah I skate! This past year was one of the most rewarding ever in that regard. My town had a meeting about the construction of a skatepark so I went to check it out. I'm glad I went because there were tax watchdog groups of 'blue hairs' trying to stop the whole thing from happening. I was the only adult skater there so I had to stand up for my tribe. I stood there talking down these old bitches reminding them that skating isn't some 'punk' sport and that it is now an Olympic event with people making a good living from it. Because of this I was asked to be a consultant on the construction. I got to sit in on meetings and review the computer renderings from potential designers of the park and add changes as I saw fit. It was a fucking dream job (no pay). By the end of the whole thing we ended up with a nice little smooth as silk park that will be expanded upon. I was thanked in the speech during the opening ceremony and everything. My son youngest son Luca (5) (broken arm) ended up in the paper because he got to cut the ribbon with the mayor. And do you want to know the best part?! Later that night when I was putting my oldest Marco (10) he said to me "Dad you are right, skating IS like being free, you can do whatever you want and there are no rules. You can do whatever you want and just enjoy yourself". It truly was one of the greatest days/moments of my life. I am a very lucky person to have been a part of it and to pass something like that on to my son was the greatest reward/payment I could have ever dreamed of.

I'll post a pic of the park if someone wants to explain to me how????

Sorry man I'm not attacking anyone. Just seems that some are hoping/expecting the band to sound the same as they did twenty years ago and that is just simply unrealistic. No offense intended. Hell we are all hear because the fucking band rocks right?! lol

I for one am very happy with the album and think that when all is said and done Rosemary will be considered one of their best efforts ever.

I told dude that his video would be taken down but he didn't listen. Guess what happened?

Warner really cracking down on this record. I doubt deftones care all that much about it though.

Youtube sucks now.
