Nah. lets not get carried away now they haven't kicked ass since the S/T

i like SNW a lot and DE is good too but KNY is overall pretty terrible the lyrics seem like they're all the same.

Hey man i like emotional music and i aint findin it here. It sucks cause these guys were my favorite band. But it's like you know you have fallen off a band when you can't feel good about saying they're your favorite band anymore because of their new record, it's like you take them down a notch to just something you 'enjoy'.

Im sorry you feel that way. However I believe the band has naturally evolved to this stage and the album is great. I feel it's the biggest effort at least since White Pony.

Of course they've evolved to this stage. It's just disappointing to me. You know though I hear people make that White Pony comparison with every new album after it.

With the release of Koi No Yokan it sort of reminded me of Saturday Night Wrist. I love that album a lot now a days. It's really great and has a better atmosphere than Koi and if anything SNW has the atmosphere thing that they had on White Pony. Just a different mood.

Saturday Night Wrist is really underrated.

No doubt, I love SNW. I'm not saying this is their best since WP and dismissing the other three since, I just feel like its the most cohesive and consistent as an album. SNW has some extraordinary songs but the album feels all over the place. It can be difficult to listen to cause of that and its something that stopped it ever being my favourite despite how special many of those songs are to me. On KNY, everything just flows.

My first thought is that you are one of those types that think something has to be "under the radar" in order to be cool like those idiots that try so hard to not be trendy yet end up being trendy. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though because you are intelligent enough to recognize this bands talent. I'm willing to bet that within the year you will be eating your words and will realize the error of your words. Just smoke a fatty and put on Graphic nature and Rosemary and it'll all fall into place for you. ;)

I'll steal a carcass for you.....and feed off the virus

Anyone else seen this T-shirt + CD package they have out?

I haven't seen it anywhere else, its not on their official merch site, and the picture is really small. Design doesn't look to great anyway. Sorry if its a repost.
There's a mass without roofs, there's a prison to fill
There's a country's soul that reads post no bills
There's a strike and a line of cops outside of the mill
There's a right to obey and there's a right to kill

hate to say it, but this album is fluff.

anyone who thinks the Deftones dont have a signature sound is clueless....They totally have a signature sound, and its starting to become too predictable...Steph lays into some really heavy guitar riffs then Chino starts crooning over it...no more screaming, no more rapping, just Chino crooning over Stephs heavy riffs song...after song...after song.. and there's your post 2010 Deftones signature sound....

It's funny you mention those two. I thought Graphic Nature was the only bad song on the album after about 5 listens. It sounded repetitive and i couldnt wait to skip it after half way through it. But now after maybe 20 listens It is my favorite song and i got it constantly on replay. The parts "im surprised" and "I'm on fire" are so dam captivating. Now I wish the song was longer. Rosemary will go down as one of Deftones best all time songs.

As for the comments about SNW above. That is the only album i dont really care for. I rarely go back to it. I like beware, cherry waves and kimdracula but Rats and Combat I cannot get into. And this is from someone that loves MOS and Poltergeist etc.. the rest of SNW is Meh. KNY is much much better. The Slow songs alone... Rosemary, entombed and WHTY make this album better than SNW. Then you got Poltergeist, Guaze, Graphic Nature and Goon Squad which are all kick ass faster songs. I have overplayed Tempest and Leathers but even those two are better than any fast song on SNW IMO. The Only bitch I have with KNY is Swerve is too short and the RD Chorus is too commercial sounding. But as a whole KNY is great album that I could play all the way through and love. And it flows together real well with a WP like story that builds and captivates.

Amen. This album is beautiful. I can listen to the album in its entirety and its just keeps kicking ass. I highly reccomend smoking out and cranking it up. Amazing. If they didn't change up it would get boring. It would sound like old songs rehashed. IMO they've evolved for the better and I'm excited to hear what they come out with next

though everyone seems to HATE Mein with a passion....

I got that impression of Mein, too. I've never had a problem with that song. I quite enjoy it, tbh. It's much easier to sink your teeth into than some of the more challenging songs of its kind on SNW.

And I fucking hate that idiot from SOAD's voice, so I'm glad it's not very prominent.

First, SNW is my favorite Deftones album.  There's nothing else as experimental and spacey in their entire discography.

you couldn't be more wrong. White Pony was there FIRST experimental and spacey album. not only was it more experimental from what they were doing but it was also more experimental then anything going on in rock at that time.

i love Koi No Yokan as much as the next Deftones fan but i do like Diamond Eyes better.
....you slowly enter

Limp Bizkit is better imo.

I had the same feelings like you, but I started to like the album actually. I am also disappointed with the lyrics and some of the vocals, but the music is top-notch.
There is atmosphere and emotions in this album, it's just not what you'd expect from Deftones, maybe that's why you don't find it. I know, it's a little surprising to hear the lyrics "I promise to watch and raise your babies" from the band which made Feiticeira and Digital Bath, but I guess they are feeling positive, that's why they are making positive music now. It's only good that they are not trying to sound in a certain way but rather are doing the music they are feeling to do.
So, my initial reaction to the album was very negative, but I looked at it in a different way and started to like it. I am definitely going to play it much more then DE.

For me the ballads on Diamond Eyes have more emotion than any song on KNY.

Maybe it's a positive emotion on the album but i don't relate as i'm a pretty moody bastard and this album seems stuck in one mood.

Like the one reviewer said, the contrast is gone and it seems like a middle of the road album, which is disappointing because it's Deftones.

I'm sure some of the newer fans disagree with me and all that, which is fine but I don't think saying shit like 'why are you on this site if you don't like the album'' or ''leave'' is the right reaction to a fans bitter disappointment. I mean it won't change my mind and it's not like i'm saying 'no you can't enjoy this album'.

Eh whatever.

Am I the only one who wants to fucking see the booklet???
:(

It's a boring booklet. No pictures, just lyrics.

Again? they pulled that shit with Diamond Eyes (worst booklet design ever), has Frank Maddocks retired? Downloaded album on i-tunes, pretty average.

its not all 'new fans' that love the record. Im a fan since ATF and I love it! Just saying that because the last couple of days Ive seen you post a lot about two camps: the old and new fans.
