There hasn't been a true deftones album since self titled.  Everything after it is pussy shit.
Anything Deftones do is true Deftones by definition

Despite the band actually creating the music? You can't scale their music like that because they're the Deftones. They.are perfectly authorised to do a 'Kid A' as far as i'm concerned.

SNW through KNY sounds like they all have dicks in their asses.  Their sound has evolved into a faggotesque landscape.

Great input.

I still don't get the self titled love. It's a great album but not really their best as a lot of you say.

Why do you still follow them then you haven't liked anything they've done in almost a decade and their not going to change back now

Aww, does somebody miss Terry Date? Go have yourself a nice big bowl of ice cream and cheer the fuck up.

I've been a deftones fan since wp, bought s/t the day it was released and liked a couple tracks off of it and thought it was garbage at first. Through the years, especially the last, it's grown to be my third maybe second favorite. Absolutely adore the dark atmosphere and emotion on it. KNY is most definitely the best since s/t imo.

I never understood why they made their fourth album eponymous. They should have named the first album Deftones (because it sounds moderately generic anyway) and named the fourth album Adrenaline.

And it suffers because it's the one album of theirs -- including Adrenaline -- that doesn't sound like a unified collection of songs. It's all over the map, genre-bending and constantly shifting from one mood/tempo to the next.

Which all makes for a great, massive Deftones record. Just not a very unified collection of songs.

I like it because of the dark mood and raw aggression on some of the songs,I agree with what you said about it not seeming unified it was too diverse so you most people would love half of it but then hate the other half not many people like the whole thing I do now though it grew on me

I've loved S/T since the first time I heard it. Dark and aggressive, like you said. But one of the first things I noticed about it was that it sounded like a collection of different songs with no real common thread or atmosphere unifying it. I can't say that about any of their other albums. Even Adrenaline sounds unified in sound and spirit.

And as much as I enjoy S/T, that's the one thing I can't ever shake the feeling of. That it's just a collection of songs and not a coherent body of music like their other records.

Just for shits and giggles, I checked the reviews on Amazon and as of this moment, it has 17 reviews, all five-star. Usually the first few days after release the fanboys will be the first to show up, but I'm not sure I've ever seen that many reviews without a single complaint. I really think this will end up being regarded as their strongest effort by a lot of casual/genre fans.

haha good shit.  KNY kick ass and sounds like deftones.

SomeOf

I listened again all the discography in order and repeatedly.
It goes like this for me :

1. ATF / WP / ST
2. Adrenaline
3. SNW / KNY
4. DE

I don't like everything on KNY but I like the atmosphere and the colors.
To me, this album is more coherent than DE. Sometimes less powerful, sometimes lame but it has a real universe.

I'm not gonna lie, KNY is far away from what I really love about Deftones.

The first important thing is the absence of Terry Date. This guys is almost everything about Deftones's sound/production.
Specially since DE, the production (particulary the vocal treatment) is too much smooth, clean, clear. Something is missing (emotion, rage, sensuality).

But after more listening, I have to admit that KNY is a really good record, with full of great stuff.
My review will come.

I have to agree. Even though I feel SNW wasn't completely lacking the classic Deftones sound (I mean, c'mon, the ending of "Rats!Rats!Rats!" sounds like it could have been on White Pony, and "Cherry Waves" and "Riviere" feel solid and sincere) it still was a step farther out of their greatest elements.

i think Deftones don't really have a sound they change too much especially now half their albums have been softer it's hard to claim the aggressive stuff is their sound
