KNY might end up ranking with Self Titled and SNW for me in the long run. We'll have to wait and see but I'm in love with it.

glad you enjoy it, i like it too :) i'm thinking opener and closer are somewhat weak, but i still listen to the whole thing without skipping songs

Thats the one thing I realized recently about KNY.  It will likely never contain my favorite deftones song, but it is a great listen start to finish with no skipping.

I had the exact same thought.

It is brilliant, through and through. Nick Raskulinecz has finely honed this band's strengths into the next, next level. Terry Date got some great records happening, but each of his albums sound like a mere collection of songs, as opposed to a cohesive album. And don't get me wrong, those songs and albums are incredible, but DE and KNY are albums. The transitional cues between songs are perfect for a thorough listen from start to finish.

The soaring vocals with much less screaming, vocal delays, Delgado textures absolutely everywhere, 8-string destruction, and the almighty Abe are all present here. Sergio's bass is so tasteful in there - it mostly follows the riff, but when it steps away, it is perfect.

The song structures are getting more experimental. Romantic Dreams is a great example of this, as are Rosemary and Poltergeist.

There is NO "weird non-Deftonesy song" in there as filler. Pink Cellphone, Teenager...since White Pony, there have been extra bloat in the albums that don't fit with the rest. Don't get me wrong - those tracks are awesome, but they seem like "comp b-side" material, like Pisces Iscariot from Smashing Pumpkins did.

Speaking of SP, there is so much shoe-gaze dream pop going on, but then Steph and Abe just kill you right afterwards.

This is every bit as ambitious as a Pink Floyd album, but even more sonically diverse. Deftones are absolutely killing it for every single microsecond of this album.

I will blast this album into my earholes until the very second of my demise.

Sounds like a load of shit. Their previous albums weren't "albums"? GTFO here.

Word.

I skip Swerve City every time it seems. Just not feeling it. What Happened To You is growing on me though. Definitely weak for a Deftones closer but it works.

Yes mate, got it today by UPS

Still waiting on mine. Have you managed to download digital version from the bundle pre-order ?

I recieved an email today with a link to download the digital version. I ordered the package from their official site.

Yea, I got an email at midnight with a link to the digital download. Still waiting on UPS, but they normally don't come til the end of the day anyways so it's cool. Made me a little worried though when in the email from Deftones, I click on the UPS link to track the package and it can't find the shipping number lol.

If I didn't get the email with the digital link, and if I hadn't download the leak, I would be murdering cats by now.

Crossing my fingers that we get one of the autographed lithiographs bc there's no way in hell I'm winning that guitar contest lol.

As far as Deftones closers go, they've pretty much all been weak.

Fist is ok
Damone is absolutely awful
Pink Maggit is boring
Moana is meh
Riviere being their only closer I really like, and it's one of my favorite songs
This Place is Death (and 976-Evil) are the only songs off DE that I just don't like

But What Happened To You? is growing on me, it's my second favorite closer of theirs, easily.

Fuck. I love this album.

It already was love at first sight (sic) with me and kny and its still growing. I have listened to it about 20 times now and its growing every time again. Some songs seem to change their shape after a few plays. E.g. I definitely didnt enjoy graphic nature that much on the first run, but the fact that this song seemed to be a bit monotone is really kickin me now. Im totally diggin abes hihat-groove on this one. I generally think that this is one of the best albums drummingwise. Abes playing has been a reason to love this band ever since, but on SNW and especially on DE he didnt get me with his grooves as he used to on their earlier albums. Even the sound of his kit is way better than on those last two records. snare's punchy as fuck, his bassdrum sounds fatter and the whole mixing of the kit is more balanced.

When I play my WP vinyl I listen to it of course, but otherwise..  As far as iPod goes, I don't even have it on there.  One of maybe 5 Deftones songs I DON'T have on it.

Is 'What Happened To You?' inspired by...Donnie Darko?
How neat, I'm impressed.
How did you come to be...so blessed?

I'm arguing that Glassjaw is or ever was nu-metal.

Well, then...define nu-metal for me.

Glassjaw honed their sound during nu-metal's blossom years and that debut album they did with Ross Robinson is firmly rooted in the aggro-rock sound of the day. I'm not saying they were the worst accusers of the genre, but I don't think I'm being ridiculous in saying it's rather easy to lump them in with the bunch.

Is anyone else eagerly awaiting 976-Evil's official review of the album like I am? I think that guy was the only one on the forums who managed to sweat it out and not download the pre-release leak.

Heretic! GTFOOH

I like the verse, and the end rocks.. but I can't get over the first 23 seconds.  An intro is important to me, and that intro just makes me cringe.  The riff is lazy and doesn't sound good, the drums sound late (though I suppose that's what they were going for), it's just noise for the sake of noise to me.  I understand everyone is entitled to their opinions, and we're all hardcore Tones fans here... but that intro makes me cringe like the Romantic Dreams chorus does!
