Yeah Stephen simplified the playing alot in ATF the riffs are a lot less intricate but i personally love those riffs just as much as Adrenaline, All the ATF songs are some of my favourite songs to play all those riffs are simple but really bouncy and heavy, Stephens a genius when it comes to writing simple good sounding riffs

The chorus indeed is one note. :(

So after listening for a couple of days, here's my verdict:

One of the worst Deftones records. It goes something like this:

White Pony
ATF
Adrenaline
SNW
Diamond Eyes
Koi No Yokan
S/T

WP
SNW
ATF
DE
S/T
Adrenaline

Its way too early for anyone to rank KNY in with records they have had years to listen to.

Gee

Ok, after the first listen :

This better than WP ? Give me a break. They'll never top that one.

Contrast people, contrast. It's not there. I mean I like it, it's an interesting album but it's not anywhere close to the emotions rollercoasters that are their classics (ATF, WP, S/T). Even SNW had a lot of contrast.

Oh yeah, so far, I like DE better.

"oh no he didn't."

bloody Amazon. I've held out until today in the expectation that Amazon would fulfil its promise of delivering on release day (today here in the UK).

Mail has come and no sign of it.

Do I hold out one more day or just listen to it?

I'm tempted to download it, fucking HMV and their shit. I phoned them and they said I can get a full refund if I haven't received it by 22nd November. I could have walked into the city and bought it. I don't see the point of selling 'pre-orders' if you can't gaurentee arrival on the release day.

I feel you man, same thing happened with me. So I just decided to listen to it online.

I'm serious! What am I supposed to be looking for? Help me out here. Dude sounds like just another Hed PE/Slightly Stoopid frontman on Adrenaline. ATF is rife with vocal melodies. Adrenaline just sounds like by-the-numbers nu-metal to me. I can't even hear these "intricate riffs" Steph is pumping out on Adrenaline.

It bores me senseless, and the only album of theirs I can't listen to over and over and over again.

The "Geeeeet Boooooooooooooooored!" chorus that hits a falsetto after the second verse? Come on.

Went to pick up Koi No Yokan from HMV this morning! The postal service is terrible round by me and everything I've pre-ordered in the past has come 2-3 weeks late. Didn't want to go through that again! Not sure how I'd rank Koi among the other Deftones records yet but it sure is beautiful.

Honestly, I don't know what to do. What gets me is that these retailers want you to buy CD's rather than MP3s. Then can't deliver stuff on time and wonder why people resort to piracy.

Think I'm just going to wait till it arrives, i.e. tomorrow evening I'll be able to give it a first listen.

If I was a man I would have just been kicked in the nuts. My best mate has just received it in the post. If it wasn't raining I'd consider going and buying it and sending the other copy back. Or I might just download it.

I totally understand why you would disagree that adrenaline isn't their best album, but I don't understand you finding it laughable. Some people don't judge albums by vocal melody.  When deftones first came out, no one flocked to them because of insane vocal melody. It was raw, dirty, emotional and different. Many claim it sounded like every other numetal band at the time, but I beg to differ.

Anyways, there's tons of reasons to judge that cd, but I don't think melody is a strong criteria.

Speaking of melody, back to KNY

first of all, since when is there a rule that says "the more melodic the better" ? if that was the case then i guess the song diamond eyes is one of their best songs? lulz. what about wgtb, most ppl here appreciate that song.. not very melodic, but ppl love it anyway.if someone wanna hate this record it's cool i guess, but this argument alone doesn't quite bite. but it doesn't really matter since there are a lot of melodies on adrenaline. maybe not their most melodic effort if you compare, but there are a lot of it i think

jciraheta

hey black , maybe adreanline doesnt hae that much melodies, but belive me , it was what was cool at that time, ...those short riffs, include the rap that chino makes in engine #9 , ...the whole nu metal thing was big at that moment and was cool , so dont judge the album that bad,

not trying  to fight just putting things in context

After many many listens since the leak, I can say that Gauze is now one of my favorite Deftones songs. That chorus, radio-friendly or not, is just so good and addictive. And the music in the verses and even Frank's little effects - everything is just done so well.

I love it.

Also, I'm loving the verses in Graphic Nature- Chino's voice and singing style and the effects they put over it sounds so Like Linus/Adrenaline. I love the throwback.

And God I would have given anything to have a less depressing and shorter intro on Good Squad. Oh well..

+1... I completely agree with you on this.
