Well put. Deftones/Team Sleep has always been my music to help me reflect on relationships and cope with tough times. The music I typically listen to when I'm upbeat is electronic music like dubstep, trance, drum n bass, hardstyle etc. I'm glad they've found a new fanbase and I'm happy for Chino finding peace in life, all his older work that I can relate to more will never get old so it's all good.

i get what you guys are saying about wanting to relate to the music emotionally, but if you really listen to what's being said in these songs, most of them are far from the uplifting, happy, joyful songs soe people are trying to paint them as.

they're still dark and angry, just being conveyed sonically in a different way.

had my first of 2 cds through the post today.... took day off work especially for it hahaha (sad). It really makes all the difference listening to it on cd format rather than mp3! Sounds even better

The more I listen to this album the more it grows on me. Swerve City still doesn't do much for me but I like every single other song. This album won't have the same special place that albums like ST and SNW have since those are tied to very important and often devastating times in my life, but this could be one of my favourites. Time will tell.

yeah a lot of the songs on adrenaline do sound the same.  i'd assume a lot of people love it due to the nostalgic factor, but it always baffles me to see people list is as a favorite.  i feel as if it's the worst work by the band.  around the fur is where they started coming into their own.  white pony took everything to the next level and was what really solidified them as a great band.

couldn't have said this better.

It seriously cracks me up to see so many people citing Adrenaline as their favorite Deftones album, or even above any of the band's other albums, for that matter.

I listened to Adrenaline the other day for the first time in years, No melody whatsoever in Chino's vocals.

wow. I find some amazing melodies on that album. Many off key notes but notes nonetheless grouped together in a pitch and rythm that created tension and release (melody). Lots of unorthodox verses and chorus structures but definite continuity of pitch and duration. Embryonic Chino original melody on that album mixed with the screaming that was popular at that time. But even the screaming he found a way to make palatable and in some cases powerful and critical to the life of the song.

When i listen to Adrenaline i hear some amazing vocals but alot of Raw music, due to production limitations and no Frank of course.

ATF is much better and their best album in my opinion. Mostly because it's still their raw unorthodox sound but produced real well.

I just don't hear this melody you speak of on Adrenaline. It's all whisper to scream in zero to sixty. And that monotonous guitar tone. I agree with what you said about ATF but it was the same producer for both records. The musicianship on ATF is what bolstered that album into the stratosphere compared to Adrenaline. Adrenaline is such a chore for me to listen to these days that I'm more inclined to just turn it off than sift for the decent parts. Even "Teething" and "Can't Even Breathe" from the following year sound like a completely different band. I've never viewed Adrenaline as anything more than a passable debut.

aj

bloody Amazon. I've held out until today in the expectation that Amazon would fulfil its promise of delivering on release day (today here in the UK).

Mail has come and no sign of it.

Do I hold out one more day or just listen to it?

DeftonesNZ

I would say there's definitely some melodic properties to adrenaline but nowhere near as much as the other albums, although adrenaline is not my favourite album i like and respect it a lot its really interested listening to it you can hear sort of the seeds of what was to come in the future albums.

good post. just like to add that Frank was on arenaline too... Minus Blindfold and Fireal :) Personally though, the only thing better with atf to me is the production. the riffs are way better and interesting on adrenaline, they're a bit lazy on atf.there are exceptions to this but as a whole this is the way i see it

DeftonesNZ

Yeah Stephen simplified the playing alot in ATF the riffs are a lot less intricate but i personally love those riffs just as much as Adrenaline, All the ATF songs are some of my favourite songs to play all those riffs are simple but really bouncy and heavy, Stephens a genius when it comes to writing simple good sounding riffs

The chorus indeed is one note. :(

So after listening for a couple of days, here's my verdict:

One of the worst Deftones records. It goes something like this:

White Pony
ATF
Adrenaline
SNW
Diamond Eyes
Koi No Yokan
S/T

Sett

laurapalmer

WP
SNW
ATF
DE
S/T
Adrenaline

Its way too early for anyone to rank KNY in with records they have had years to listen to.

Gee

Ok, after the first listen :

This better than WP ? Give me a break. They'll never top that one.

Contrast people, contrast. It's not there. I mean I like it, it's an interesting album but it's not anywhere close to the emotions rollercoasters that are their classics (ATF, WP, S/T). Even SNW had a lot of contrast.

Oh yeah, so far, I like DE better.

"oh no he didn't."
