The thing is, people who were depressed and angry at the world and pissed off found deftones, and some of those people are still like that, so the new stuff alienates them. That's my problem with it, but i understand its just another stage of their career. Doesn't mean i have to like it, i can't like it if i can't relate.

Certain people look for deftones for certain things, and those things are gone for me. I guess people who vibe with the record are pretty chilled out and such. I don't know, i found so much emotion in deftones when I first discovered the band. They've alienated me and several others with this new direction. Us fans have to be a bit disappointed, so I hope the new fans can at least respect us fans of the older material. Even if they don't like it.

Well put. Deftones/Team Sleep has always been my music to help me reflect on relationships and cope with tough times. The music I typically listen to when I'm upbeat is electronic music like dubstep, trance, drum n bass, hardstyle etc. I'm glad they've found a new fanbase and I'm happy for Chino finding peace in life, all his older work that I can relate to more will never get old so it's all good.

I agree with anyone saying this could be their best record. And I'm not even comparing it to the others because it's on a completely different level. I had to dust of my home stereo with my 15" Cerwin Vega which I haven't done in a long time (my pc has a fat 10" powered sub so I only use the 15" when I need overkill;) and it was like injecting heroin into my ears.
Sometimes I hear certain sounds, and they make my dick really fucking hard.........

i still don't get all the love for swerve city.  the main riff is generic and isn't as groovy as everyone keeps saying.  the verses are really the only good thing about this song.  i think the first half of the album apart from romantic dreams is sort of lackluster.  poltergeist sounds forced and leathers sounds really contained.  entombed is repetitive as can be.  from tempest on, the album is great.  first half, not so much.

I dunno, for some reason Swerve City reminds me of Jennifer Love Hewwit.....

WHTY? was my favorite song until I was listening to it earlier today and my ex msgd me something awful, pretty much got my heart broken while listening to it and now I wont be able to listen to it without feeling like shit. Fucking asshole.

Swerve City is groovy as hell, I danced about my living room as soon as it started, and didn't stop for the whole song. It just grabs me instantly, and the verses/bridge are so soaring. The whole album is solid and consistent from start to finish. Makes you wanna just start it over again.

What kind of a sick bitch texts something that could possibly break someone's heart?

I like Gauze and What Happened to You a lot! Poltergeist is pretty tight as well!

yeah the verses on swerve are really great.  just leaves something to be desired.  i feel like it's sort of lazy otherwise.

sooniletugo

I dunno dude, I just feel it's perfect as an opening track. Yeah, it's short and sweet, finishes before it really begins, but it kind of works in its favour, as it never gets tiresome. The riff might be generic otherwise but it just works so well in this song IMO. Gives me an urge to jump up and down furiously lol.
Then we enter Romantic Dreams, probably my least favourite on first listen but growing on me immensely now. I think it's an amazing song. Its all kind of simple but so effective. You wouldnt expect "I'm hypnotised by your name, I wish this night would never end" to be a great chorus but it just sounds so right and honest in that song.

romantic dreams is one of the better songs on the album.  the fact that you're saying it's simple and swerve city is better concerns me.

I gave it another 2-3 listens today and it's getting better. Better then DE for sure. Nowhere near the classics though :(

it's also boring as hell.
I blame Stef's 8 string.

The music is great. Chino's new style is just not for me

So what you meant to say was: Fuck the new Chino

there you go.

It seriously cracks me up to see so many people citing Adrenaline as their favorite Deftones album, or even above any of the band's other albums, for that matter.

I listened to Adrenaline the other day for the first time in years, and I was amazed at how dated and bad it sounded compared to everything the band did after it. Even ATF sounds like a massive stylistic leap in terms of melody, song structure and musicianship. Adrenaline just sounds like boring, generic nu-metal with an annoying buzzsaw guitar tone. Like 11 slightly different versions of the same song. No melody whatsoever in Chino's vocals. It's amazing they still play some of these songs for the fans when 4/5ths of the band practically disown it today.

The reviews for this album have been amazing!  All 9ss and 10s out of 10... So fucking happy for this band as it's well deserved considering their entire career.  And I still haven't heard the album :D

phil for real

yeah a lot of the songs on adrenaline do sound the same.  i'd assume a lot of people love it due to the nostalgic factor, but it always baffles me to see people list is as a favorite.  i feel as if it's the worst work by the band.  around the fur is where they started coming into their own.  white pony took everything to the next level and was what really solidified them as a great band.

wow. I find some amazing melodies on that album. Many off key notes but notes nonetheless grouped together in a pitch and rythm that created tension and release (melody). Lots of unorthodox verses and chorus structures but definite continuity of pitch and duration. Embryonic Chino original melody on that album mixed with the screaming that was popular at that time. But even the screaming he found a way to make palatable and in some cases powerful and critical to the life of the song.

When i listen to Adrenaline i hear some amazing vocals but alot of Raw music, due to production limitations and no Frank of course.

ATF is much better and their best album in my opinion. Mostly because it's still their raw unorthodox sound but produced real well.
