I think that "Graphic Nature" has a great Depeche Mode influence...maybe more if the distorsion of the guitar was tuned just a little bit softer...

Its crazy Stef has become the Rhythm guitarist  in Deftones

Gauze is the best song on the album for me. I didn't like anything else at first listen.

1. Too many choruses I don't even listen to music like this.

2. Thin voice, accompanied by thick guitars and sounds = ???

3. His voice (again) is like higher in pitch or something.

4. It's just not for me

That being said, I won't bash others about their opinion (unlike some people here) It's just that since they have a lot of albums I prefer ones from the past.

It's bound to happen to any band with albums like Deftones have and the different sounds.

The only thing though that has been a mainstay that is gone now, is chino's vocal style the whispery almost indecipherable moaning that made Deftones for me.

That is disappointing, but the band is top notch as always.

I just think that Chino could have experimented more with different tones and pitches and such. The music changes yet Chino doesn't.

It's too formulaic for me to get into.

I'd recommend Gauze to a Deftones fan of older material.

I'd give it a 6/10

hmm... I still haven't listened to this album yet. I'm  trying to lower my expectations so I can be pleasantly surprised if anything. Can I ask you what your say, top 5 deftones tracks are xToxin ? Off any album.

Just so I can get a sense whether our tastes are compatible. Based off the tracks I have heard and DE i'd agree on the vocals though. I try not to let that affect my opinion though, and just take it as progression of the band. Did you like Rosemary ? Cos I love that track.

It'd be pointless to do that man. You will either like it or you won't, I guess. Just have to wait and see.

Officially the favorite words of Chino...

He seems to have a thing for 'taste', too.

hell no. steph shaped the song, like an outline on drawing, and chino just filling it with colors.

I think Poltergeist is becoming one of my favourite deftones songs ever. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Id love to hear Terry do his thang on the tracks from SNW, DE, and KNY. The three albums which desperately needed his touch.

okay here's my review

Koi No Yokan - 8.5 out of 10

Swerve City 8/10 - great choice for an opener. would be great to experience this on a live show
Romantic Dreams 8/10 - this is a smart song i guess, chino's singing style pretty impressed me here, song structure are amazing.
Leathers 8/10 - great song to kick it, but imo chino shouldnt play guitar on this. just sayin
Poltergeist 9/10 - monster song. amazing!
Entombed 8/10 - beautiful and really emotional but not a sequel of sextape
Graphic Nature 7/10 - seems to be a grower, the chorus part is not really standout. but this is new from them, kinda have a little dark vibe on it.
Tempest 8/10 - catchy song, radio friendly, but still rocking hard like deftones always do.
Gauze 9/10 - heavy but thats not all. chino did great job too here. digging his vocal style which is very unique.
Rosemary 8/10 - Classic and dreamy tune from them. kinda fit to self titled era.
Goon Squad 8/10 - reminded me of combat, but this is better.
What Happened to You? 7/10 - crosses with a little rx queen. abe's drumming makes this song better.

this album is definitely what i expected. straight to become top 3 from their catalogue

i also think that the "best shit ever", "it's a msterpiece" posts are too soon.. let it sink in. but I was still surprised about how good it sounds at first listenings .. and that the "deftones" feeling was there more than i thought. poltergeist, graphic nature, goon squad sounds like they will be my favorites.romantic dreams sounded far better than the snippet implied, the only weak tracks would be entombed and what happened to you, rest seem pretty damn good imo.i'll tell you this much, way better than snw and d.e, but to grade the album or rank it more than that is too soon for me

Electron§

"Swerve City" 2/5
"Romantic Dreams" 4.5/5
"Leathers" 2.5/5
"Poltergeist" 4.5/5
"Entombed" 1/5
"Graphic Nature" 4/5
"Tempest" 1/5
"Gauze" 2/5
"Rosemary" 5/5
"Good Squad" 4.5/5
"What Happened To You?" 1/5

deftones86

I love this album very very much ^-^ <3 and not just saying cause im a deftones fan, but because they really stepped up compared to diamond eyes .. i expected a great album .
But this is more than expected .. and i love it <3 im glad its not DE 2 or ATF 2 or WP 2 .. its something new .. i love it whrn deftones experiment .. theres a few tracks that sounds really unorthodox to deftones but it still has that deftones sound to it! And im just very pleased and amazed with this amazing album .. deftones ALWAYS delivers <3
Was it like it seemed?...

With each listen I become less impressed with the songs I already didn't like. Really "Entombed" is probably the worst Deftones song of all time. Sick title, horrible song.

!BloodyCape!

So far loving the album! Kind of gives me a like Linus vibe (vocally) with
Better production and some shoegaze influences!    :D listening at work all day

Electron§

Some of these songs sound really half ass.
