Does anyone else not 'get it' when it comes to Graphic Nature? I am on first listen right now, currently playing Tempest. Mind is totally blown except Graphic. It damn near killed my good mood....

"Graphic Nature" grows on you. It was the last song to really grow on me. Give it a couple more plays and notice how the song sort of builds at the end. It's a moody song. The dynamics are subtle.

Wow.

Rare are the instances when I can actually feel an album changing the way I look at music of its kind. They've done it before collectively with their albums but never like this, as its playing.

This is some shit from a completely different realm. I can honestly say it will render 99% of any "heavy" music I may hear from now on useless. Much the same way Aphex Twin rendered all of techno useless for me when I discovered him.

The chorus to "Goon Squad" is a little too repetitive for my liking. Maybe it'll grow on me, maybe it won't. The song definitely has the weakest chorus on the album, in my opinion.

I just fucking LOOOVE how the outro to Rosemary plays right into the intro to Goon Squad.
I feel like some of these songs are "live" songs.. the impact would be much greater hearing them live.

early thoughts on the first half of KNY:
1. swerve city quickly turns new wave at the 1:43 mark and i love it.
2. romantic dreams might be the prequel to combat
3. leathers is so much better sequenced in the album than as a single
4. poltergeist is just an evil, evil sludge groove. like a satanic dance party.
5. entombed is just the flat out wow moment for me. cannot even believe this a deftones song.

I feel the same way about Swerve City, after my 2nd listen. Im usually pretty understanding on every deftones song but Swerve City does nothing for me. Maybe I need to sleep on it.

I was surprised when some people were trashing teh ending of Rosemary and saying it was Steph being lazy (not even sure if its steph or chino) but i Loved it's sound, now it makes even more sense when it blends into goon squad.

Anyone else agree with me that Gauze could be a good single? It's got all elements of Deftones. Heavy, aggressive, catchy/beautiful chorus, and its melodic.

quite the opposite, on first listen it immediately placed itself in my top 3. like I said before, it has a really strong The Cure vibe to it.
