There is just no pleasing some people, Weeks of complaining about no leak and peoplf keeping it to themselves... now we all got it and peoplf are complaining about Lyric threads and the mods... Fucken hell... I didn't know about this place till about 4 days ago and I'm grateful for finding it and being able to talk with fellow fans and grab the new disc...

Exactly. Every message forum/community by any band I've ever been to has these exact same problems. Hate the moderator, think you can do it better, pissed because your whack-ass thread or opinion got overlooked or deleted, etc etc etc.

The internet is full of whiny little bitches. Sometimes, I'm no exception. But ever since the old board at deftones.com went under, I've just been thankful there's been a place that caters to their fan community. This thread is GOLD. I can't tell you how many times I laughed fucking hard at people getting trolled and the never-ending flow of shitty comments people have made. All amusing, all worthwhile.

Chill the fuck out and enjoy the record. It's that simple.

Overall, KNY does feel like a sequel to DE, to me.

As I said in the "Bullshit Thread," this album is exactly what I've been hoping for and more. Romantic dreams, Poltergeist. The whole album as a flow! Goddamn

It does, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

When the band talked about being in a different head space and place as a band, comparatively it seems as if Diamond Eyes only hinted at that. That album was more streamlined and simplistic, brimming with positivity and an upbeat outlook, yet only intimating the progression which was ahead. Many view Diamond Eyes as a step back, but I think it was a wonderful album, demonstrating how easily the band can facilitate between heavy and soft so effortlessly and then blend their heavier approach together with a softer sound more consistently.

Here on Koi No Yokan, it appears as if the band has fully tapped into the potential that the other album hinted at. Every song features something new, demonstrating the clearer, less convoluted head space, with more intent to forge ahead into new territory. The band seems to be making music together and enjoying each others presence, feeding off each other and thriving.

I love the clarity and heft of the production. The walls of sound engorge rather than attack, and each facet of the band accentuates each other seamlessly. This is clear on 'Entombed' which would have been purely electronic years back, but instead features the entire band melding together at their core. Koi No Yokan is easily my favorite Deftones album is years, already on par with White Pony and surpassing both Saturday Night Wrist and their eponymous album. I hold Diamond Eyes in high regard, but in due time, when all the nuances of each song have been scoured I'm certain this will be appreciated even more.

I couldn't be happier.

Anyway, buy the album people. They've earned our money. Go to shows if you can. Bands like this need our money to keep thriving and producing music that imbues our life with rhythm.

Wow I couldn't have said it better myself.. +1 dude

this is the first deftones album for me in which i have enjoyed every song. very nice warm feeling to it

976-EVIL

Listen I am 40 years old, I first saw the band during the Around the Fur tour in Vegas 100 years ago it seems, I lurked this site for years before I joined and honestly the only reason I did is because I liked the handle "976-EVIL" when DE came out and I did not want anyone else to get it :)

I dont post often because I like reading everyone's opinion because I already know my own. After engaging on the board I have found that there are alot of diehard true Deftones fans here. Some of the video and live performances I have seen here (that I could not have enjoyed as easily otherwise) make me greatful (you know who you are Gents) for the contibutions that have made my life and love of my favorite band better and stronger.

As for the "New Blood"? As long as the input is thoughtful, passionate and worthwhile I am all for it. We were all Noobs once....
One last Thing...You Should Beware the Content!!

Thank God that you........ love..... at all.

How so? DE was very simple, whereas KNY, to me, is them going in a more experimental, new direction than their previous albums. I dont get ppl calling it mainstream or commercial either. Even Chino. It's not as heavy as their other albums maybe. It's gt no songs like WGTB or something to that effect, but to me it's plenty heavy. But then I guess it depends on what you look for the most frm their music. So you dont really like the album?

I don't feel that way at all. Instead, I feel as if it's a logical progression. Diamond Eyes showed the band's growth by stripping it down and focusing on the songs themselves. Here on KYN I think they're made a concerted effort to change it up, not just delve into walls of sound that envelope everything but incorporate a lot of pitch changes and chord progressions rather than drone away at the same groove. Chino isn't just wailing away on the chorus and mildly singing throughout the album. He is singing throughout. You can tell they're locked in, feeding off each other and working together as a unit completely.

I didn't think the band was possible of changing it up like they did on 'Romantic Dreams'. I assumed they would be content to evolve within their bubble and flesh out the small recesses of their territory. I was wrong. They broke things open. The album in my eyes is nearly perfect.

How many times did Chino say "Inside" on this album? Has to be a record

Romantic Dreams and What Happened To You? Stand out far ahead of the rest. Decent Album kinda wished they went more similar to S/T era than DE era song types.
Self Titled is still their best album. It was the perfect blend of passive aggressive energy. Its hard to believe the same band that made Hexagram, Damone and needles and pins made a song like "Entombed".

Swerve - straight to the point. Hard hitting from the start. Not too long, not too short. Kind of an intro to what the rest of the album has in store.. Very soothing vocals.. I am loving what chinos doing on this album lyrically.

Romantic - after reading the lyrics. I think this song is without a doubt about chi (think about it). The lyrics are awesome and the guitars sound great. Abe is killer as usual. Sergio stepped his shit up, big time.

Leathers - this is what you'd expect to hear from deftones, it's a great song and really gets me excited for the next few songs.

Poltergeist - wow. My favorite song on the album... After the 30 second preview, I was unconvinced about everyone's love for it... I get it now.. It's old school deftones. From chinos delivery to the heavy chugs and the beats all around.

Entombed - total departure from anything they've ever done... Another favorite from the album.. I want to see them play this live. Maybe a set closer. I dunno how to explain why I love the song. From the sampled drum beat to the guitars to Abe and frank and Sergio. It's just flows from mellow to dirty. Probably going to be my favorite deftones song ever.

Graphic nature - first half of the song I'm not a fan of, but them the song starts to pick up. Not my favorite song. Might be a future skipper.

Gauze - one of my favorite opening riffs.. The the verse riff happens. Wow. These guys are letting it all out. If this song doesn't become a single then Warner have no fucking clue how to market these guys. I fucking love that verse riff. Frank is very loud in this song. I love it. The end of the song is pretty killer.

Goon - intro sounds team sleepy. The build up before the singing is pretty boss... Again more chino vocal magic. The delivery really works really well. The chorus is a tiny bit weak. Main riff is pretty damn good.

What happened to you - brings everything back down to mellow you out and end it on a high note. One of my favorite deftones closers since white pony.

Nice. Your review sounds a lot like mine.
What do you give the album as an over all score out of 5?

Listening right now! Opening notes of Swerve City just kicked in and I already have goosebumps all over my body and I'm shivering in pure ecstasy. Thank you Deftones, you are the love my life! \m/
How neat, I'm impressed.
How did you come to be...so blessed?

That's where it doesn't just work for me. I think his new singing style is excessive. To be a bit less vague, I'd feel the same way if Stef tried tons of impossible guitar tricks on each track. It's just too much to me.

Why is it hard to believe... ST also included Anniversary of an unintersting event.... which wouldn;t feel all that out of place next to entombed
