Swerve City uff... not so bad/not so good
Romantic Dreams hate it
Leathers hate it
Poltergeist "ok"...
Entombed I love this one, my favorite
Graphic Nature not so bad
Tempest good one
Gauze I like it
Rosemary uff... boooooooring
Goon Squad uff... not so bad/not so good
What Happened To You nice feeling for this one

The most important problem in this record is Chino's vocal.
Always the same notes. Always the same kind of singing style. Always the same chorus...
... Especially, lots of notes that he can't even hit live.

The entire production of the album (instru+vocals) is weak, next to Terry Date's stuff and it's a whole new sound that we have here.

I'm not saying that the album is going to be bad... I believe I'm going to love a lot of things in it, but I can't tell that it's not a disappointment.
The other bad point is that every song has a pop chorus...

there was nothing pop about de except for the title track

if this is your definition of pop then you need a serious reality check.

i keep seeing people shoot down anyone who mentions pop music anywhere near a sentence with deftones in it and i feel i should point out that pop music does have a fairly broad definition depending on how much you've studied music.

Quote from:  "Pop Music" on Wikipedia...there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.

so, you know, some of their music is definitely written with more of a pop structure to it. diamond eyes, for instance. it's not necessarily the direct comparison to one direction everyone's treating it as. just that some of their music is not as off the beaten track as the rest.

Wow. Did you just school me with a Wikipedia article? Here, take my lunch money! Just please don't hit me anymore!

i wasn't trying to "school" anyone in particular. yours was just the latest comment i'd seen in that vein and i though i should say something. i suppose i could have just not quoted anything at all, but since most things around here without some documentation backing them up get either ignored or trashed talked, i figured i oughta cite something.

if i had a non-wiki source handy, i might have used that. i mostly have this information in my brain thanks to a friend of mine with a degree in musicology. i'm sure she'd have much more respected sources than wikipedia, but oh well.
we could be two straight lines in a crooked world.

New Review out
4.5/5

All these short reviews are weird... They don't say anything meaningful and I can feel that they were written by journalists, not by fans of the band.
Must-hear track: "Tempest" - Are you kidding me ? Tempest is the weakest of all 3 songs released so far.

I've been trying to be patient and not be a whiney little bitch but here it goes.

This no leaking shit if fucking ridiculous. Europe sells the album in 4 days how is this not on-fucking-line yet. Greendays dos is all over the place but no dtones? what the shit. I'm...aaarrgh... ahhhh.  :'( I cant handle this anymore.

sigh.

i feel a little better.

now I'll prepare for my digital bitch slap for complaining.

Wow. Awesome review. That got me psyched up!

"As strong as Diamond Eyes, 2006's Saturday Night Wrist, and 2003's Deftones were, the music has not been this consistently first-rate since White Pony, and in fact their music has never sounded more vibrant. This music has always meant to shimmer as much as crush.

"It's just near-perfect Deftones. It's an album that will have listeners smitten from the get-go.

A Stef Carpenter guitar solo!!!???

QuoteMoreno serves up layers of wistful vocal melodies, bassist Sergio Vega sneaks in some nimble melodies of his own during the more subdued verses, while guitarist Stephen Carpenter adds a sharp, minimal solo that slices through the fog.
