Fucking Green Day leaked. If Soundgarden does today too and we're left waiting til Thursday, there really is no god.

I think I could calm down for a couple of days if I got a Soundgarden leak.

yeah, same. I even want Soundgarden to drop first to be honest. I'm pretty certain I will be disappointed already, but if I get KNY before or at the same time as Soundgarden chances are much higher I will simply put Soundgarden aside. if it arrives before it at least stands a chance.

I agree. Surprised more Deftones fans aren't into Soundgarden. Old Soundgarden is awesome, hope they can recapture some of that...

Karausu

After listening/reading some of the lyrics, I am convinced this album is about cheeseburgers and Chino's love of eating them.

That's just the thing. I respect them and love Superunknown and Down on the Upside, but Chris Cornell has done little the past 10 years but embarrass himself and tarnish his legacy, so I cringe to imagine what this record will be like. The couple songs I've heard only seem to confirm my suspicions. Feels like a money grab along the lines of what the Pumpkins have done lately.

Kind of puts into perspective how amazing it is that Deftones are still releasing albums that we can argue over whether they're the best in their discography. They're only maybe 3-5 years younger than Soundgarden/PJ/Pumpkins, and it's been 10+ years since any of those guys put out something better than mediocre.

Lil Pesci

Well I think Soundgarden was formed a long time ago, they probably have ten years at least on the Deftones, but I agree with the songs I've heard. Chris just sounds different, but I saw them a year or so ago and they were great live. All liked all their stuff back in the day, but in their 50's with 10 years off, I have doubts too.

Spike

I don't like the release of King Animal and Koi No Yokan at the same day.
It's just that I think as soon as I've got my hands on KNY I will abandon Soundgarden for at least two weeks. (I don't expect the new SG to be like Superunknown, so I don't have so high expectations like for the Deftones).

agreed. say what you will about all their albums - some are better than others and the fanbase is of pretty differing opinions - but they're one of very few bands who have experimented and evolved, yet stayed true to their sound. most bands either sell out, quit when they're out of ideas or simply become boring. not this band.

Their new stuff that I've heard does seem radio friendly.  That said, it doesn't mean the whole album will be like that.  Soundgarden is one of those bands that isn't afraid to experiement and as a result, usally comes up with some unexpected gems.  I hope the album isn't forced and is really something that they came together in order to make art.

by experimenting you mean writing ordinary boring rock songs? because that's mostly what they've done more and more over time. the most experimental and challenging albums will always be their first bunch, up until Superunknown.

I expect the new album to have some solid rock songs like the single (good but oh so boring) and a couple of ballads in a similar tone. nothing more exciting than that. but I still have a tiny amount of hope that I'm wrong.

I think we are lucky that Chino didn't leave after S/T. Or else they could have been finished with so much more quality stuff left in them. I am glad the band is OK with Chino and his side projects, most bands cannot handle that.

You didn't like Down on the Upside? Some great stuff on there man, far from boring: Blow up the Outside World, Pretty Noose, Ty Cobb etc etc

Totally agree with ya on that. I actually think Chino's side projects (in a way) have saved the band. Put space between them, and allowed Chino to do his more experimental/mellow stuff without bringing it into the Deftones too terribly much. Obviously you can hear a little bit of that in the newer Deftones material, but I think him doing Team Sleep/Crosses in a way, kept the band from breaking up.

I'm starting to hear the

"I left you for dead,
and you knew that you'd be back"

part of Poltergeist instead of "I let you pretend". That would also link the title to the song, but it just sounds weird hearing him say that..

Yeah, they generally have an ordinary rock sound but they have songs like 4th of July, Burden in my hands, Blow up the Outside World, Fell on Black Days and others that were pretty good and different for the time.
