I dont get ppl tlking about it being like their version of a pop album. What, because there's no screaming? That's not what counts as pop music lol to me, DE is their most commercial album, and there's no way even just frm the previews that this will be more commercial-sounding, radio-friendly, etc. That said, it does appear that it'll be their least heavy album (my own definition of heavy, at least). Which I'm alright with because I'm more a fan of their softer music or their soft-then-heavy or heavy-then-soft music, but I guess that'll be a huge disappointment for ppl who want another WGTB or Elite. But to be honest, I think we coulda guessed that based on DE. It seems like it's just not the natural path they go on wen making music anymore, so that'll suck for many ppl, but their sound has always been to have a mixture of both, and they still have that. So personally, I'm happy.

Leaving it like that now till I the album is in my ears.

It sounds poppy not because of lack of screaming (If Chino just screamed all the time, they would just be like every other metal band) but because Chino's singing on some of the songs sounds very upbeat and catchy.

Haven't heard anyone say KNY is their version of a pop album..
If anything this album is going to be "dreamy" with spikes of that heavyness that we all love from the Deftones. But I agree with what you're saying.
I think they've really worked on their use of odd time signatures and are going to experiment with song structure a lot on KNY

The previews are only the choruses.

Agreed. I really don't mind their softer music either, 'cause I love Sextape and Cherry Waves. I guess there has always been a divide between their softer and harder sides. I just love that KNY may be following in the same steps as WP/DE (my two favorite Deftones albums)

Upbeat and catchy doesn't always mean poppy. I don't get a "pop" vibe at all from the snippets. I don't know what people are thinking. lol

Listened to the snippets a few times. Swerve City almost made me cry. I like just about all of it except Graphic Nature, but I also hated the snippet of Needles and Pins prior to the S/T release. Anyone also feel like Leathers just sounds different now, like it makes more sense just from hearing the 30 second clips? If I was starting to get bored of Leathers, I am not anymore!
When people whisper it makes her nervous.

It doesn't? But I don't get a pop vibe from all of the snippets, either. Just some of them.

Pop is Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, etc. I hear none of that in these songs.
I think what you mean by Pop is, slightly more catchy than the average aggressive/heavy/melodic Deftones song.
Change is catchy, Diamond Eyes is catchy, Hole in the Earth is catchy, Cherry Waves is catchy, etc.
Nothing at all wrong with catchy. Deftones their entire career have managed to stay out of the "mainstream radio" and still manage to put out great quality catchy singles that actually MEAN something and stay successful musicians.
But Poppy, no.

Well, all Deftones songs are catchy to me. But I'd argue that all of those songs you mentioned have a darker and/or melancholy vibe to them (even Diamond Eyes) than some of these snippets. Not all of them, but some. Now, I could be jumping to conclusions because these are just snippets, but certain moments (Particularly Chino's "Ohs!" in both Swerve City and Romantic Dreams) sound extremely poppy.

It's similar to what from_musings was saying in the thread earlier. A lot of these snippets sound happier and more upbeat, as opposed to the overwhelming sadness and darkness of some of their earlier work. Is it as thoroughly poppy as Bieber or Gaga? Of course not, but it is poppier than old Deftones. I'd also like to point out that upbeat isn't a bad thing. I love the dark Deftones sound, but I also enjoy when they do stuff like this. The album also sounds pretty dreamy. I think songs like Hole in the Earth and 976-Evil (Two of their most underrated songs ever) find a great balance between catchy, poppy, dreamy and just slightly melancholy, and it sounds like this record is going in that vein, which I thoroughly embrace.

Im reading a few negative remarks on KNY and some really good one and well i just wanna say ... KNY IS AMAZINGGG .. was really not expecting such a vibe like this from this album .. leatgers and tempest sounded alot more amazing put in between all these amazing songs that deftones made .. to be honest i thought maybe i was getting tired of them and they were probably gonna turn into skippers but no .. they sound amazing <3 ALL THE SONGS BLEW ME AWAY .. they honestly did .. im not sure to much graphic nature but i know when i hear the entire album they will all be even more amazing than im saying now .. cant wait till the 13th .. thankyou deftones for your amazing art and i hope to keep on hearing more and more stuff from you guys <3
Was it like it seemed?...

DAFTPUNK87

In the end it doesn't matter really. It's not like this is going to be their "saleout" album or anything.
It's still going to be Deftones, we're all going to love it, and listen to it, and celebrate it.
I'm just glad they are still together and putting out great music, unlike ANYONE ELSE from back in their days ya know.
They went in their own direction, they constantly evolve with every release. It's no surprise to me that KNY is another evolutionary step in their sound.
This album is going to have all the things we all love about Deftones.
