I don`t get why the people that have this already won`t leak it. The way I see it, those who are going to buy it will buy it regardless. Those who will only download it will still only download it even when its released. What percentage of people will only download it now and not buy because it leaked?
It's also exceptionally sad that a lot of people evidently see these early leaks, which are often not the best quality, as acceptable substitutes for pristine CD-quality audio. Then again, most of my friends don't see the problem with listening to most of their music on YouTube, so audiophiles (or anything resembling them) are fighting a losing battle, I'm afraid. (This also manifests itself in the public being willing to bend over and shell out $11.99 for shitty lossy iTunes downloads when the CD is the same price or cheaper, but that's a rant for another thread).

I dare you to tell the difference between a top notch quality rip and the cd. Seriously.
Obviously you can't tell with a FLAC rip, or even a properly-encoded high-bitrate MP3 one. I know that usually such rips do appear online before release date, but oftentimes, the very first "leak" is a webrip or transcode of some sort. And yet, you know there are lots of morons out there who download those and say "welp, I've got the album now!" and never look back. I just think it's indicative of a broader lack of appreciation for the precision and engineering that goes into a record that leads people to download and not even consider buying the genuine product.

some people listen to music with ipod headphones. They wont be able to hear the difference between 56kbps and 320kbps mp3's... Ok i'm a bit exagerating.

But seriously, even the difference between 128 and 320 isn't that obvious. Proof there : http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/03/mp3-sound-quality-test-128-320/

Like most people here, I plan on buying the album not only to support the band I love so dearly but because I like having something tangible in im my hands. The artwork, sound quality etc. You're probably right, I proobably can't tel the difference between a 320 mp3 vs the album. But, when I really want to relax I put my LE White Pony in the disc drive and set up my nice speakers and play it, as opposed to the mp3s.

I preordered the album but realized I would be out of town that week for work. Now I just gotta make a quick stop at Target on the 13th. I'm going to blast that shit, swerve city especially. Can't wait.

DAFTPUNK87

Clip 1 is 320.
I don't think that's a very accurate representation though.. I've heard some shit 128 before. Usually the high hats and drums sound more flat and the cymbals have a really shit quality to them. Cool lil quiz though.. it was hard for me to tell at first.

I dunno if it's me or what, but I can totally tell the difference between when I listen to White Pony on my iPod and when I put in the CD. CD quality sounds more full, even though the music on my iPod is ripped straight from the cd..

Agree. I remember when S/T leaked. I was on here, downloaded all the songs, burned them to a CD and drove around listening to it around 1030pm. I still showed up Tuesday morning bright and early to get the actual CD. It does just seem to sound better though I couldn't put my finger on why.

I really like the S/T booklet btw, but WP is hands down the coolest I think. I'm stoked to see the actual CD art for KNY. I have a feeling its going to be neon green.

Right on the money. I cringe anytime I see these carefully-crafted "tests" (here's another) designed to prove that 128 kbps MP3 is transparent and perfectly good as a replacement for CD-quality audio. Whether or not that's true is very sensitive to the type of source material. For very "sparse" audio like spoken voice or even some jazz, it's possible. For hard rock that's dense and loud, not a chance. I guarantee I could discern Hexagram or My Own Summer at 128 kbps from the CD, 10 times out of 10, on decent headphones or speakers. As you mentioned, cymbals (and drums in general) are often the biggest giveaway.

I'm gonna lock this shit in a minute.

That would be sick! Neon green cd, Yeah, I'm not sure what it is either, obviously the difference must come from the auxiliary input vs playing via cd.

Yeah, it seems that the lack of a leak is definitely building up more anticipation for this album than in the past. Not that there isn't always a lot of anticipation for a Deftones release. Just seems a bit more excitement/anticipation/questions this go 'round.

I don't think I've ever seen so many whiners on a fan message board in my life. And I've been to plenty, believe me.

Those of you arguing that Adrenaline sounded "technical" or even original at the time of its release have an obvious, serious crack problem. As good as Adrenaline is, it was by no means technical or one-of-a-kind back in its day. That's why it got labeled "nu-metal", because it sounded just like a bunch of other nu-metal albums around that time. It wasn't until Around the Fur when their sound started noticeably coming into their own.

Adrenaline is easily their weakest, least-original album in their catalogue. I'm not saying it's a bad album by any means, but it's obviously the work of a new band who had yet to find their niche among 50 other bands who had the exact same sound at the time of its release.

OMG it leaked???? J/K  Hey everybody.  Yes, another noob.... :)

I haven't been this excited for a release since Oceansize 'Frames'!!!!
Oceansize kicks ass! I didn't like Frames as much as Everyone into Position though..
Effloresce will always be my favorite, followed by EIP and SPWTBFU. I could go on FOREVER about O'size (the ONLY band I love more than the Deftones), but don't want to hear people complaining that we're in the KNY thread.

Glad to see I'm in good company here. Oceansize fucking rule.

I agree with you completely. Adrenaline in a great album, but it's by far my least favorite of theirs. I remember Abe saying that, to him, it sounds like it was written by a bunch of angry, anxious teenagers. He can't even listen to it anymore. I still think it's a fine album, but it's by no means the legend that some people make it out to be. *this is an opinion*

That they do. Probably my favorite band of the new millennium thus far, if you put a gun to my head.

All you lucky bastards who've yet to discover them should just go download "Frames" right now, and you'll be more than content to wait out the 9 remaining days. Some of us have already played it 5,000 times and don't have that luxury. ;)

Jacob

I too love Oceansize, and I think Everyone Into Position and Eflouresce are their best albums. but all their shit is amazing, really. too bad they broke up, never even got to see them live :(
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep
