So far every closer (especially MX, Rivière and This Place Is Death) from every album belongs to my all time favorite songs by them. I'm not worried that this won't be the case with "What Happened To You?"

hehe right on! Back when I used to listen to Adrenaline no-stop, at first I wasn't really digging Fist. But upon further listening, it grew on me and now it's actually in my top 3 favorite songs from that album. It's probably the most "forgotten" Deftones song around lol

Fist is easily among the top 3 of Adrenaline. Together with Fireal and Birthmark

Yeah, I have to agree. Their closing tracks are always on point. Except for Moana, it took me a while to get into that song.. Moana is one of those tracks where, ehh it's not the best but it isn't god-awful - I love the rest of their music - why not like Moana as well haha! Oh, but "Riviere" is a dream, also a very fantastic closing song - especially for the kind of album SNW is

And I personally love their self-titled album. I think it's killer. It's dark, heavy - I love everything about it from the album art to every song, even Lucky You. But I never understood why the hell Lucky You made it onto the album and Lovers became a B-Side. Lovers is one of my favorite Deftones songs, it definitely deserved a spot on the final self-titled album. Lovers would have been a good closer actually, with the way it just fades out with them going off, Abe smashing the shit out of the skins

It's people like this that don't get it. Sure, they may not be as aggressive as their Adrenaline/Around the Fur days.. but who wants to listen to a band that never evolves? They sonically crush any other band that's been around as long as them. They constantly and consistently put out amazing albums that push the envelope and stand the test of time. They are original, they are heavy & melodic, they are Deftones. And mainstream?! HAH Deftones have been and always will be anything BUT mainstream.. I mean, when you've been a band for over 20 years, yeah, of course you're going to gain some recognition and a larger fanbase.. but mainstream? I barely hear their music on the radio & never see them on TV..

Incubus has gone mainstream if you want an example of a once decent band that turned mainstream and simplified.

I agree.  Diamond Eyes had a lot of polished "radio friendly" choruses.  I hope the new album is a little more raw.  Actually, DE is the only album of theirs that had a distinct commercial feel to it.  It was a good album but I'm hoping for more of a SNW feel with this album.

Incubus has gone mainstream?????    If anything  they have gone away from mainstream.   Make Yourself/Morning View were their mainstream albums and they were awesome in my eyes!   Starting with ACLOTM they started to push the envelope and really go away from their bass driven material.  Personally, I prefer the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. era and feel they have gone too far with the experimentation in my eyes.

For my tastes, anyway. I'm still skeptical about the new record. I don't hold it against the band if I don't like it. I just move along. I'll listen to a new Deftones album on principle alone.

I would hardly say mainstream or simplified.Their a more complex these days especially with Chino stepping up his guitar game,Also great comparison to Incubus they were bug at the same times as Deftones and have should out majorly their recent albums have been shit like supermarket soundtrack (morning view is still my favourite), i guess some people can't appreciate how much these guys have evolved and still managed to stay relevant without selling out i hate people who want a sequel to adrenaline or around the fur people should know by now Deftones don't do sequels.

Once again. It's my opinion, based on my tastes and feelings towards the songs. I never want them to recreate something just for me. I'm not that selfish.

Geez, opinions opinions.

Earlier it was really bad in here people were assuming things, telling people they aren't fans etc. Just for saying they'd download an album if it leaked.

I think I know what you're trying to say.
You mean they are less heavy and raw sounding?

Nah man it's not that simple. It's just one of those things where something appeals to you more or less for the connection you have to it.
