That breakdown... it's so difficult to predict when steph is going to do the longer strumming pattern (or something, can't really explain it)

its fixed pattern, you can count it, except the last one is shorter..

I don't think it's hard at all, for one you just have to be able to "feel" the music, but other than that, every 8th time he does the riff it's the extended part. And the last one is on the 4th...

I have found that most of the leaks appearing are fake. There are some YouTube videos out there that also provide links to these leaks, but they are only baiting you, so that you will fill out a few surveys - you need a password to access those leaks. Be careful.

This is probably the first time in a long time that I am excited about a new Deftones album. I was not a big fan of ST or SNW - but diamond eyes did please me.

the timing kinda sound unnatural. I'm really bad with oddtime signature and shit. what would this be?

It's not a weird time signature, it's just straight 4/4... It just sounds weird...

I had a difficult time with it when I tried to cover it.. It's the only part I'm kinda unsure about.. As Steph told me last night when I met him.. "You can try to play my songs, but it's not going to sound the same as when I play them".. When you factor in  his tone, guitar, playing style, time signature, this is very true.

The drums are in 4/4.
But steph is playing a different time signature over the top of it.

Hey plays
7 bars of 3/4, then 1 bar of 5/4
7 bars of 3/4, then 1 bar of 5/4
7 bars of 3/4, then 1 bar of 5/4
3 bars of 3/4, then 1 bar of 5/4

thats why it sounds weird, stephs rhythm crossing over the beat in 4 make it hard to tell when he changes.

As someone said earlier is not that difficult to play you just need to count 8 bars and when you get to the 8th bar you have play a 9th bar but without the silence in between them... play that pattern 3 times and for the last one you play 4 bars and then you add a 5th bar also without the silence... hope it made sense ;D

Has anyone else ever noticed how audibly, Roller Derby sounds similar to Rosemary? I'd bet the title wasn't even going to be called Roller Derby. Just misheard in discussion... of a completely different song...
