Looks like I'm pretty much the only one who was disappointed by Tempest. Not a terrible song, but nothing worth all the ass kissing it's getting. You don't have to like it just because it's a deftones song, which is the vibe I get from a lot of people. It just sounds nothing like them, not in a good way. Leathers on the other hand is fucking great.

I cant speak for everyone else, but I never like their songs just because it's Deftones. I do, however, love pretty much every song they've made except for a handful. They just make brilliant music to me that I've never consistently disliked. People have different opinions, that's all. It sounds very different for them, or at least, it doesnt sound like anything they've made in a long time, but personally I feel like it does still contain their core elements. That's what I love about this band, they take influences frm their past albums, go down some new paths, yet still keep their sound. I love Tempest and Leathers, but I'm really limiting how much I listen to them. With DE I'd listened to Rocket Skates quite possibly 100s of times before DE came out. It didnt ruin the album for me or anything, but overplaying anything risks getting bored.

About the album cover, I love it. I've never been much of a fan of any of their album covers before except for SNW, and I can see the similarities in terms of font/layout, the way there seems to be multiple images, etc. I just wish I knew what the fuck I was looking at.

All I know is, I love what I've heard, I love the fact that many are longer songs, I love that Entombed has Stephen playing differently, and I love that it they appear to be going in a more complex, "out there" direction than DE.

100% agree with this.

I don't wanna sound so negative, but I've just come to the conclusion that they've lost it. "Rosemary" had me pumped, and then all these other songs with very generic "pop metal" choruses came out, and my renewed faith was lost. Then there's this generic album cover that looks like a picture of the inside of a advanced buildings reflective elevator. This is Diamond Eyes part 2.

Whats with all the negativity? What was so wrong with Diamond Eyes? How is Rosemary so different from Tempest? Pop Metal? Get the fuck out dude.

I don't know if they've 'lost it', but they're definitely in a different place these days.

Personally, I love Leathers, haven't heard a decent recording of Rosemary or Roller Derby yet.

But Tempest, after the initial excitement sounds, well, a bit boring. It sounds like Soundgarden going through the motions.

Not sure whether the mix is really flat, but the opening vocals sound dull. I used to love the fx Chino would play with on his voice.

Seems the reactions are either love or hate. Same as usual then haha.

I'm wondering if the studio will try and get Tempest on a movie soundtrack. It has that kind of vibe.

Tempest2012

Leathers has that classic 'tones vibe to it for sure, Tempest on the other hand kind of sounds like a salute to the grunge era somewhat, just my opinion though.

Bear in mind that the folks with critical comments may well like the album as a whole when it's released!

I'm well aware of that. I just think he's changing his singing style because maybe he's bored with the old one. I haven't heard him live recently with the older material, does he sing it differently too? Or does he use his old style?

still sings their old songs like he used to, THANK FUCK

The cover is good, but not as good as the S/T one.

in terms of album cover; this is looking most likely out of the ones we've seen, and i think its fine :

I hope this really is the cover. It gives me a 1970's record vibe.

If it isn't then I'm sure they won't dissapoint.
I am not digging this one either. It looks too pseudo-art to me.

I went into a bar in london and the toilets looked like this, it was like walking through a space portal or something, true story.

As long as they have at least one or two interesting songs, where they have taken a few risks i'll be happy. So far every song has come across as catchy, safe and way too accessible for my liking.

Completely agree.

It's taking me a while to warm to Tempest, Leathers I loved instantly and Rosemary's awesome too, though not heard a decent recording of it yet...

To me though, none of what we've heard reminds me of DE, can't see where the DEII comments are coming from, but there you go

the image itself is ok i think, nice to look at. but for me the music on it will say if it's a good cover for this album or not,the music will decide if they fit together. it looks like some kind of space portal, you enter, but don't know where you will come out or where it will take you. so if the album is a good journey like wp but more futuristic, and not just a collection of stand alone songs like d.e., then i'm sure it will be cool altogheter
