I always thought the word "realm" in diamond eyes was awkwardly placed also. Just chino being chino I guess. Whatever fits.

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Well I can understand realm being where it's placed, but "Let" totally seems out of place there. It can't be what he screams. In fact whenever I hear it, it always reminds me of RATM Know Your Enemy, the part Maynard sings, "time has come to PAY!"

Rob Halford possibly?

This could actually be true. Adding to this are the lyrics (which are fairly straightforward and seem to be about coming out of the closet) and the fact that the song is titled "Leathers". So Deftones are Judas Priest fans, huh? That's pretty awesome. \m/
I think it's safe to say you are talking out of your ass.  About coming out of the closet?  Let's face it, the lyrics could probably mean a billion different things, I doubt there is anything that makes it clear it's about that.

Sorry.  It just seemed like he jumped to a ridiculous conclusion.

In Leathers, exactly what word is sang as the long awesome scream at around 2:57?

Isn't that part "...time to LET", - "let" being the screamed word?

Obviously it sounds awesome but it's funny that it's the word "let" that is screamed lol.

Coming from chino. It's not that weird. Lol

i could bet he screams "breathe"

Brandito27

I think a few things may be off, just missing a word or two here, and there, but pretty great over all. Thanks, nice job man

Chino was fucked up on drugs in 03=GREAT ALBUM...They all hated eachother on SNW=GREAT ALBUM...Now with DE and KNY they all love eachother and are all about unity as a band=not nearly as dark or fucked up an album....pain/torment/hate/drugs will equal a great album....Loving eachother will equal a simple rock record like DE.......The fact Chino is fat again and drinking a lot again might give me some hope the new album will be somewhat fucked up...But I still expect DE part 2
Your such an idiot. They are in a different part of their lives now, they dont want to keep writing that same melancholy, dark feeling deftones 'classic' music you all think is missing. So move on, and sit in front of pirate bay for the eros leak.
Your more of an idiot for ignoring the fact that they can still make somewhat lighthearted songs that sound masterfully beautiful and genuine, but on Diamond Eyes it doesn't have that gorgeousness and tenderness songs like "Fist", or "Gift" or "Riviere" or "Be Quiet And Drive" have, without being all darkness and depression.

The thing which Deftones have truly lost is their *emotional dynamics*. Yes, maybe they are still dynamic in the artificial purely musical sense that they go from heavy to soft, but they never really transcend into different moods with each song nowadays. Each song kind of has too similar a feel, and that feel is not very powerful.

Its much more than just needing them to be dark. If they could deliver something which felt at least *sincere* (which Diamond Eyes does not in anyway), I would be almost completely subdued in my maybe naive anticipation of the return of melancholy.
your even more of an idiot. Im not ignoring that they are able to write stuff with what you all think is 'sincere' emotion, they can most definitley do that. Saying that there is no sincere emotion, or emotional dynamics in the songs off diamond eyes is dumb. Risk is one of the most beautiful songs, with a deep emotional sense to it and so is sextape. because i like soft melody when chino make high note

Okay us calling each other idiots over what we think of a bands sound is pretty unintelligent, so I'd rather just like to say that I highly disagree with the statement that " "Risk" is one of the most beautiful songs and so is "Sextape" because Chino makes a nice high note", because in my opinion, a song like "Minerva" or "Digital Bath" immolates anything off of Diamond Eyes in terms of beauty, simply because it doesn't really sound like too many other things, thus giving it that sincerity I was mentioning, because they were really strange translations of confused emotional power in song form. Diamond Eyes across the board is to me much more comparable to other modern "softer" metal bands than anything else theyve done (and I think this is because of the producer, Nick) because the emotions i feel from the newest songs are pretty understandable and general for mainstream metal/rock songs. Its anger or happiness and it goes back and forth from song to song, even though the older songs still had darker or lighter feelings to them, you couldn't exactly figure them out as easily because they sounded a lot more mysterious and weird and literally mixed both at once sometimes. Diamond Eyes is kind of like "happy" song, "sad" song, "happy" song, "sad" song, etc.

An album like S/T could do three moods all at once in one song and make it work perfectly because the songs were structured much better.

But this is my opinion, and obviously me saying what I think is not going to change you much, so just take this into account before completely writing off whatever I had to say simply because you want to be right after I made the mistake of calling you an idiot.

No, they're not making the same stuff twice, but they have some very much a like factors between albums, DE and KNY are closest in that regard but that's mostly because of Chino's singing style didn't change that much other than it changed on every album before DE. Leathers, Roller Derby and Rosemary sounded very DEish in that regard but it not contains of the vocals only and Stef totally went more towards meshuggah playstyle this time around but with his own interpretation of it. Abe sounded different on the drums on leathers, not so much on how he played it but what gear he used, not smackey but short burst that suits the guitars. I remember some of the Eros stuff that reminded me more of S/T than anything but it was still very different because of how they finetuned their instruments and evolved their playstyle. It's barely 2 years between the albums and with all the idea flow that they mentioned it is good for them and I don't fear repetition as much as they can take more time after that to let's say 3-4 years for the next album which could be very much different from anything that we know.

This is honestly why I'm so curious to hear Eros, I felt the same when I heard the snippets. The way I always imagined it is, is having the darkness and despair of S/T, with the more experimental touches that we're hearing in the intro to "Leathers" as well as some of SNW.

Sounds like you guys just have different meanings on beauty which is cool i love all those songs especially Digital Bath not the most positive or sweet song but creates beautiful imagery

Yeah, obviously Playhouse likes *literal* beauty. You know, the girly Deftones stuff. lol. Not the more rugged, deeply emotional, *benignly abrasive* stuff.

im sorry electrons, didn't mean to argue. The self titled album is my favourite, i love the more rugged deeply emotional underlying fuck you i hope the world dies vibe. I also love the easy literal beauty within risk and sextape. And your obviosuly not an idiot. I apologise.
