Does that mean you overall like the song, or you dont like it but it's an improvement on DE?

Starz

Not sure where the minority of hate is coming from. I think it's a killer, killer song and I feel so much more excited to hear the rest of the album than I did with DE when I first heard Rocket Skates.

It doesn't actually sound like a Deftones song, nothing I've heard before by them but yet it still has those distinguishable traits that we all admire so much. Atmosphere, emotion, aggression and intensity. Each member of the band brings something different to the table and you can really hear that clearly with this song. They are still having fun, they are at a point in their career where they prob don't give two shits if people like it or not. The music has always been about them more than pleasing fans anyway. It's just an added bonus that we seem to love the music they make so much.

People expecting Around the Fur/White Pony part. 2 will of course be disappointed.

Frank is a boss on this song. He really opens the chorus up and gives it some nice textures (har har). That inhale scream on "Go on" is beastly and Abe and Stephen just annihilate the "wear your insides on the outside" part. I dig the chorus even if its nothing groundbreaking. Gonna be interesting to hear Chino do this live.

TheShade1989

Why are ppl hating on the chorus? Sounds too poppy or whatever? It's not the best chorus ever in my opinion, but dont see what makes it bad. What kind of songs frm them have good choruses in your eyes, and how does it sound like a chorus frm DE? I mean, it cant be the switch to singing, because he's done that in a hell of a lot of songs, so what else, just the lighter feel to it?

I have a feeling Poltergeist is going to be much more aggressive than this song when we finally hear the studio version.

so are you changing your name now it's no longer titled Roller Derby? :)

Only if you change your name to Princess Bananahammock.

I dunno, I think this track encompasses everything from WP-ST-SNW-DE all mashed into one bitchin song!

It's official

Leathers is NOW the most listened to song on the Deftones_Official soundcloud account! Way to go fellas!

In case you got the wrong impression from me Starz, I am loving this song.  I just find the chorus more commercial than I'd like even though I still like the chorus too.

i wanna take that intro and make sweet sweet love to it. get it pregnant, and the grow old with it. I'm in love with it!

totally this.

DeftonesNZ

I love leathers its a new sound for the deftones but you can still tell its them, sick of people wanting a sequel album like self titled 2.0, fans should know by now that the deftones will always keep evolving.

Is someone going to merge the Leathers thread with this one?  It seems to make sense.

That's weird. You're like...one of the biggest contributors ever, but you're not a typical over-the-top fan that loves everything they create and everything about them.

Also, good news to everyone seeing them live after the album is out: new setlist :D don't have to be annoyed at the same songs being played as the other five times you saw them. Until the next show of course.

RollerDerby

Personally love the track. Chorus is a bit weak, but the verses definitely make up for it. Frank secondly shines here, and Steph... Sweet jesus. I really do hope the album properly alternates Heavy and soft. I think that was one of the major weaknesses of DE. Started of overly aggressive and then mellowed out way too much. Not saying I think DE was a weak album, so don't get it twisted you vultures.

what a load of naive bs lol

its also not "something you've never heard from them", c'mon.. its very much in line with the heavier tracks from the last few records.

though its not commercial... commercial is Change... this isnt a memorable hook (for those who dont listen to it 99 times like we do rite now)

its not a new direction, c'mon, thats fanboy praise.

its very much typically SNW/DE deftones. just a weak chorus, in my mind.

DeftonesNZ

Yea steph and chino sound sick with their guitar playing in this can't wait to upgrade to an eight string sounds fun to play. Also Abe like usual is smashing those drums he never disappoints also Sergio is really good i hear a big improvement from diamond eyes he's more separate from the guitar riffs but they merge well. Frank does an awesome job he just does his subtle little things to create the mood.

Couldn't have said it better. It still has the DE vibe, lyrically and guitar-wise. The way it is structured is very reminiscent of SNW.
