It's 2 guitars and multiple guitar tracks.

Leathers has my favorite Chino singing style.

It's got the Danger Girl-esq crooning.. and then there's that beefy scream in the middle!

Stef is ON FIRE.. machinegun riffage in there.. awesome song structure

Abe destroys the skins as always.. fuuuuuuuuuuucking can't wait to hear the rest of his fuckin shit

Frank really layers that intro pretty nicely.. some subtleties in there

Sergio - Such a fucking tight sound man.. I think that's the most beastly bass tone I've ever heard on a deftones song.. no disrespect to Chi.. but SHIT that bass... He NAILED it

pretty standard emo/nu-metal stuff. but they're doing it well. great song. nothing spectacular and ground breaking though.

It always strikes me as odd that somebody would take the time to log into a forum dedicated to the fans of a band, take the time to find the threads pertaining to new material, take the time to listen to the tracks (maybe?), and then completely speak out of your ass about it.  If the deftones are emo then radiohead is now hiphop and the world is ending.

it always strikes me as odd when someone can't respect someone else's opinion and put words in other people's mouths.

I'm not dissing the band. to me emo is nothing inherently negative. I think Deftones have very big emo influences, but I guess that's because I have a different definition of what emo is than you seem to have.

my point was simply that the song, specifically the chorus, sounds very much like something that has been done before. even the vocals are a bit "standard" and do not stand out as much as Chino's vocals usually do. it's still good, though.
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

I have a question for you guys: Do you think this tune is prob one of the songs that has Chinos hands all over it (by that I mean 2 guitars)? If this is just like, one guitar only, Stef REALLY surprised me!
I think it's one guitar plus samples from Frank

Nope. Two guitars. 100%. Chino is panned more to the right.

HEEEEEEEE, I'm happy :D ah, they didnt let us down, they were just hitting us wen we least expected it. Wow, that intro and then...BAM. Wow. Almost had a heart attack. That intro is awesome though, definitely gonna be a more experimental, out there album. Oh, and the picture is kwl too.

pony_01

song structure may be standard for emo songs or nu metal, but catch the atmosphere of the song, definitely out of this world man! leathers is sickkkkkkk

Bifrost

holy cow that was dope... initial impressions:

the energy and heaviness, a perfect combination of the two... I havent heard the tones like this since ATF (yes I know that is said wayyyy tooo often but for the first time I think it rings true, I can see why Chino was gushing over this saying it was the most dynamic album yet, if the rest of the album is like this I can definitely believe it)

Chino's voice, is coming through very clear and even though the song is heavy as hell which is to be expected its still, dare I say uplifting, the combination of the lyric's and the chorus... it's awesome

I'm am really digging this

The mid-late 90s proper Emo right? Even Nu-Metal had it's good stuff too so I can relate to your post too.

at first listen it was a litte bit of a letdown due to the intro being so fucking awesome but man this song is killer. Unlike anything they have ever done really so, so,  good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I listened to it again, think you are right.

from_musings

it was alright.. i think i like everything except the chorus. nice intro,"chugga,chugga+scream"-verse was nothing new or amazing but still good, and i really enjoy the "Wear your insides, On the outside" part, although it's nothing special there either. solid song though- 6.5/10    8)

For now it's a meh, need more listens.

I guess Jacob refered to emo songs/bands since this song has some octaves in some of the riffs. (if thats not why, sorry). Lots of emo bands use that a LOT. And to be honest, I think hes kinda right. It does have a feeling that reminds me (at least) some of the bands I used to listen to when I was younger. I'm not saying its an emo song, but I can undestand why he said what he said.

Here's the background to the website without words on it.

Dare I say it? The excitement for this album is much, much higher for me than it was for DE. I dont know why, I guess because the band have been so silent, and then we're hit with this brutal, heavy song and some fucking awesome artwork. And let's face it, this is much heavier than anything on DE at all, so I really wasnt expecting this. Ugh, I have to stop speaking, it's awesome, I wont shut up, but I do love the direction they're going in with the intros; it's Deftones, yet it's them having a different sound, going in different paths. Me gusta.

bewareofrats

I love that it's more uptempo and it reminds me of ATF more than Diamond Eyes does like some of the reviews for that album said but much more interesting than ATF.

I like Chino's bit at the end in regards to "everybody's gotta have an opinion". True that.
