White Wrist

for me...everything happens in November 13th!

I don't know if we'll get a song by tomorrow but I hope we get it by Friday at least.  Diamond Eyes was possibly my most anticipated album of all time.  I really got into Deftones after SNW was released and loved that particular creative high and after years in between, naturally couldn't wait for the next one.  DE is a really good album and it is something special but it couldn't live up to SNW in my mind.  I am extremely excited about Koi No Yokan, more than I thought I might be.  Probably because it sounds like it will be less streamlined and based on Rosemary it's seeming to be true.

I love that DE is the way that it was though.  It needed to be as a re-juvenation and was the right time to have a more cohesive, high passion album.  Now that it's done its thing I look forward to more experimentation.

Definitely. I loved DE for what it was, but it seemed to lack a certain 'edge' that was there on albums like White Pony, S/T, and SNW. DE was more straightforward, compact. I get the feeling that Koi No Yokan will have that same focused, high energy drive behind it along with the depth of the older albums.

DE also had a really positive vibe to it, which is fantastic. But the darker side of Deftones has always had more of an emotional impact on me. I think we'll see hints of that on Koi No Yokan as well.

Off topic from the new release, I hope there is an instrumental track somewhere on KNY. "Fist" and "... Start, Select" were some fun songs. I'd like to see where the band is jam wise now and with Sergio.

Nailed it!  It is like you entered my mind and took the exact thoughts out of my head.

And I wouldn't mind another instrumental either.  I'm wondering if Entomb will be, or largely I'm thinking.  More progressive like sing blue silver said.

It's hard to imagine a finger-tapping song from Steph...really interested to hear that. The work-in-progress name for it, Dazzle, sounds like a direct reference to the way the song sounds with all that tapping. Deep, lush, trippy, progressive. Sorta starting to remind me of something Mastodon would do.

Also looking forward to hearing Romantic Dreams...supposedly a 'monster'.

I agree 100%. DE is a great album, and I'm glad it acquired them a new fanbase, but it isn't the deftones I love. It isn't that raw sound I know that takes me to the depths of my soul like Needles and Pins or Pink Maggit. Rosemary reminds me of that which is why I'm hyped about this album.

That would be really cool if they released a song at midnight, but I doubt it.

Agreed. Not long after DE was released and everyone was tlking about it, I was like "how the hell do so many of you dislike it? This is their best album!!" but I get it now. I love the album, but it's missing those haunting, emotional, dark, beautiful songs like Riviere, Deathblow, Pink Maggit, Mascara, etc. I'm glad they were in a mindset to create happy-sounding, simplistic music, but I'd love for them to still have that positive energy but use it to create more of that beautiful, raw dark music they do so well. And going frm what Rosemary, I think they have. I mean, I'm not naive enough to think the whole album sounds like Rosemary, but the fact that many songs are over five minutes long and Stephen is doing something completely different on the album points in a very good direction, in my opinion.

That said, let's hope Leathers (or Tempest, at least) is one of the un-DE sounding ones, because you know the drama and disappointment it'll create here if it isnt :D

I agree with this.  Diamond Eyes was great because while it sounded so different from Saturday Night Wrist it still sounded like Deftones, even though it did have a more positive sound.  I prefer it darker like Rosemary and they proved they could change it up a lot with DE so I'm hoping they do much the same this time but still sound like Deftones.

Perfection. Been wanting to say that about DE for awhile. That lack of dark, crushing beauty is what eventually kept me from ranking it next to White Pony or S/T.

Even with these tidbits of audio and information that we have, KNY is sounding like the Deftones album that pieces everything together and blows our fucking minds. Then again, those are just high hopes.

no. It was reported on this site, http://www.antiquiet.com/news/2012/09/deftones-koi-no-yokan/ that a song called 'leathers' would be released on tuesday the 19th as a free download. It wasn't a rumour, they reported it after interviewing the band. But they removed it off the revised article so maybe the management want it to be a surprise or something. The track release for tomorrow was also mentioned in an interview with frank.

you should all go outside and do something. loitering around the internet for a new song is a bit much. when it's released, it isn't going anywhere. relax.

When I wake up tomorrow, there had better be a new Deftones song circulating around the interwebs. Or I'm gonna shit.
