Gauze doesn't remind me of Risk. Or any of their songs really. The ending reminds me of a Meshuggah riff though. Can't figure out which one though.

IMO, to me you are on crack ;P

that riff (ending heavy bit you referred to?..) resolves within the 4 beats...  aka a bar.  no modulation over 4/4 involved there...

Big Roy a.k.a Big Money Roy enjoys the album. Sounds fresh.
I thought that Big Roy a.k.a The Last Roy was not interested in no leaks. I mean, I feel a little cheated because I've ATAT (absorbed that, accepted that )

;D

Did you 4Ts and a B? Take that to the bank?

I'm glad I'm not disappointed with this album.  It's the first album to make me fall back in love with deftones like I did when I first heard them.  I guess part of it depends on where you are in your life.   I'm in a good point in my life and that's why this album rings true. Cruising through the night listening to this just makes me feel alive.  Fuck yeah.

Having "Poltergeist" and "Entombed" coupled next to each other in the tracklisting is SO convenient when I want to make the case for why I enjoy Deftones so much. I'll just play them those two songs.  ;)

I cant believe how amazing these guys are.. People either love or HATE the deftones and their style.

Be happy that you were one of the fortunate ones to possess the "deftones gene"

I can't believe I'm actually finding the album boring overall. I've only listened once so far, so I'm sure certain songs will grow on me, but I'm not hearing anything that stands out like particular tracks on all the previous releases.

Of course Adrenaline is my fav, so the further they get from that sound the harder time I have getting into it.

Not trolling btw, just chucking my opinion out there for anyone.

Yes! But like I said the last time I agreed with you in the context of KNY being a DE sequel - it's an improvement.

Woke up this morning with Swerve City looping in my head and an email saying my pre-order has shipped! Great stuff. Glad this album is finally out. Has anyone checked out the FLAC release of KNY?

this is everything the deftones are all about...

Youre not alone.  Theres quite a few people I know that have thrown the term "boring" around.
The tempo of the album is rather slow/medium.  Anyone looking for an energetic album wont find it here.  Its a great album, its just not for aggressive style purists.

You hit the nail on the head Usurper...I think it's mainly the tempo that is holding me back. Steph's intense riffage has been toned down and there seems to be a lack of Deftones-style song shifts every 30 seconds.

Just like SNW I suspect many listenings will see me still finding new things to enjoy on this album.

After a firm listen of about 20 times over at work today i can safely say im not disappointed whatsoever! Goon Squad and Romantic Dreams make me so wet! I can see why people wouldnt like some songs on there, but im pleased with them all :)

The more I listen, the more I feel it sets itself apart from their entire discography to date. Not just in the sense that it's "better" (it is to me), but it's just a whole different beast, no matter your opinion. The discrepancies among any of the records from ATF to SNW absolutely pale to the fork in the road they took on KNY. I don't really see this as a "blend of SNW and S/T" or anything of the sort; it's out in left field.

I don't know; I've admitted in a couple posts here already that Deftones aren't my favorite group in the world or anything, and I mainly signed up just for the leak and subsequent discussion. To be blunt, I've always felt their records are consistently great, but never quite exceptional or mind-blowing. One main reason is that there always seemed to be a degree of repetitiveness or stagnation through parts of any given record. Even on WP, my clear favorite before this, I'd say I can easily get bored on the first half and skip around sometimes. KNY just has a whole different feel; it's so immediately accessible and diverse. Diamond Eyes was a step in that direction, with very little "stagnation," but that slick accessibility and fast pace came at the expense of depth. This one seems to correct the latter without sacrificing the former. It feels and progresses *very* differently from anything before Diamond Eyes, IMO. This thing comes out swinging and just rolls from end to end without noodling around and losing my interest ala the mid-section of SNW, or the Good Morning Beautiful/Deathblow sequence, or even -- dare I say -- the Elite/Carp/RX one.

Also of note is that the atmospheric bits are fucking perfect. My favorite artists have always been ones that excelled at this -- Tool/APC, Radiohead, Oceansize, etc. -- and Deftones have had their moments, but nothing in the league of Rosemary, especially with its outro. The extension into the beginning of Goon Squad is absolutely chilling and emotive in a way I honestly didn't believe these dudes were capable of until now. Let me reiterate what I said weeks ago when it first leaked: I think Rosemary is the realization of something the Passenger/Change/Pink Maggit sequence was only striving for.

I'm just going to ramble if I don't stop myself, but I'm becoming rather confident this will easily be my favorite Deftones record, edging out WP by a decent margin. I know that's blasphemous to some hardcore and longtime/early fans, and to be fair I don't even like their early stuff (Adrenaline and half of ATF) all that much. But for "crossover" casual fans who come from the perspective of fawning over bands like the ones I mentioned above, I think this record may convert quite a few into true believers.

I think you nailed it to be honest. Agree with you for the most part, the Deftones were and still are the band that I compare most others to when it comes to creativity and willingness to stray away from conventional rhythms and song structures. I love this band, ATF,WP and ST shuffled around my car stereo for a good 5 years non stop. SNW and DE are great as well but they haven't endured like their previous works.  Vocally Chino seems to have modified his singing style again on KNY,  he's pursing something different vocally which is more apparent in his Team Sleep and Crosses efforts. He tends to spend more time staying in the upper range of his vocal abilities were as on past efforts like ATF and WP especially, there was a more varied approach spanning lower to higher creating more dynamics overall. I think the fact that Stef has downtuned his guitar so drastically with every new release has limited chino's opportunity to create the soaring melodies like on their past songs  Knife Party, Passenger and Feticeira. It really feels like they're rocking two bass guitarist's now and letting frank write more melody. This isn't a bad thing, Franks extremely talented and you really see his potential on KNY. Him and Abe stand out the most to me so far on this one.  I really like the new album, think they're going in a good direction.
