 8)yep. I want to add that this is a new sound for Deftones sorta carried over from DE that i think we all just have to get used to if there is something we don't like abt it. Gotta admit, i was a little freaked out by the samples and i think it's Chino's voice and sound more than anything. I can't judge till i hear the record though and am still pumped.... i meant freaked out in a way that i just don't know yet. I didn't hear the Deftones that I fell in love with 15 yrs ago........

Pop is Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, etc. I hear none of that in these songs.
I think what you mean by Pop is, slightly more catchy than the average aggressive/heavy/melodic Deftones song.
Change is catchy, Diamond Eyes is catchy, Hole in the Earth is catchy, Cherry Waves is catchy, etc.
Nothing at all wrong with catchy. Deftones their entire career have managed to stay out of the "mainstream radio" and still manage to put out great quality catchy singles that actually MEAN something and stay successful musicians.
But Poppy, no.

"Who the hell are they?"

Its easier to just say LP or something. Though I feel like punching someone when I see a person look up Deftones as "Death tones"

I mean, yea they have changed considerably over the years. But that's why we all love them, whether you realize it or not. That's why there's always so much anticipation over a new tones album, because we never know what direction they're going to take or what it will sound like. Each album is THEM but in their own different unique way.

Oh my god, right? Deftones are the only band I still love from that era. Tool as well, but other than that I listen to anything from Marvin Gaye, Opeth, Daft Punk, Pretty Lights, Oceansize, Circa Survive, Grizzly Bear, Washed Out, Thievery Corporation etc.

Having succumbed during a 12 hour night shift on my own I have listened to the 30-second samples.

First impressions are atmospheric, spacey, expansive tunes. Certainly different to anything they have done previously. To some that is a crime similar to chopping up your loved ones with an axe. To me it is the sound of Deftones continually evolving.

I would hate it if Deftones released/rehashed the same album over and over again. That is the reason they still give me goosebumps. Different sounds, same Deftones.

Off topic. Leave a whisper and karma and effect were their magnum opus's and were good albums. Ever since then they've gone downhill. Tbh tho, everyone where I live in the UK listens to metalcore sooooo..yeah hahaha. I mean there is good metalcore (Between the Buried and Me fucking rule) But bring me the horizon, suicide silence (rip Mitch), asking alexandria. just suck IMO.

Wayyyy off topic; LP would've sold out if they made another hybrid theory album, since they don't wanna do it but the fans want it.

different sounds - same deftones is fine. different sounds - different deftones is bad.meaning, when they change til the point that they lose their core - than it's something else.hypothetically speaking they could change so much that you don't recongnize them any more. a lot of ppl seem happy just as long as chino sings to some electric guitars,but it's more to it than that. may seem vague but long time fans will know

i know what you mean but i put my expectations rather low so i was kinda happy with some snippets. poltergeist,graphic nature and goon squad. i don't expect anything mind blowing, but i'm hoping for some cool tunes on the album, that isn't too commercial/catchy sounding
